Iraq will join some other Arab League nations in condemning Hizbollah's attacks on Israel, Iraq's foreign minister told U.S. lawmakers on Wednesday, as Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki addressed a joint meeting of Congress.

Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshiyar Zebari told lawmakers that Iraq will join Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Egypt in condemning Hizbollah, Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid of Nevada told reporters.

Maliki, addressing a joint meeting of the Senate and the House of Representatives, said Iraq was key to defeating terrorism worldwide. Recalling the failed uprising against Saddam Hussein in 1991, he urged the United States not to abandon his country.

Good. Too bad there was some doubt how this would go down.

Doubt? He is already on RECORD as supporting Hez - who cares what he says today under force.

He has already made his comments. I think the conservatives in this forum need to open their eyes.

It's amazing that terrorist enablers in the 5th columnist Democratic party would have the nerve to question anyone else's commitment to the fight against terrorism, especially people on the front-line of terrorism in the Iraqi government. Democrats have actively worked to undermine the US war on terror in IRaq and elsewhere, and then dare to question the Iraqi PM's commitment to fighting terrorism just because he's said some of the similar things the Democrats' friends on the left, in Europe and in the US media are saying in condemning Israel??? What hypocrisy.

I'm glad the Iraqis will issue a statement condemning Hezbollah. Now if only the Democrats and their allies will too.

It would make sense - the same groups are connected to killings in Iraq (Iran, Syria, which both back Hezbollah)

The politician's personal views are of no interest. What he says in his official position counts in matters of state.

Where exactly did Maliki say he supports Hezbollah. Bashing Israel doesn't mean he supports Hezbollah. If it did it would mean Italy supports Hezbollah. It may be that by bashing Israel they were helping Hezbollah, but that is something very different.

Never fear our eyes are wide open and we know what is significant and what is not. Hence, we instinctively know that any comments in line with the Party of Treason's blathering are immediately rejected by patriots.

It seems to me that any criticism of the Hezzies by Arab states must be taken quite lightly.

Maliki had his chance to chime in much earlier. To say something bad about the Hezzies at this juncture is not just bad timing - it is criminally bad timing.

He also didn't say anything in his address to the Congress about tackling Islamic terrorists, but simply " terrorism." Not good.

"Recalling the failed uprising against Saddam Hussein in 1991, he urged the United States not to abandon his country."

The mere fact that he has to mention this, AT ALL, in front of the United States Congress should tell you everything you need to know about what the policies of Cut-N-Run have done to us, and our reputation, worldwide...

The Arab world STILL sees us as wek-knee'd, and they KNOW that the minute leftists regain control in America, we're gone........

You clearly don't understand the politics of Iraq. Maliki relies on "Shia" support to stay in power. Hezbollah is an extremely popular Shia organization around the Shia world. Maliki has far too big fish to fry at home to stick out his neck for something he probably could care less about at this point.

All I know of "on record" comments are that he bashed Israel for all the attacks inside Lebanon that caused lots of damage, displacement, etc., and he failed to condemn the original instigation by Hezbollah.

His comments are like most in this world, blame Israel. The Brits and others of our supposed Allies do it all the time. However, that is not the same as making statements in support of Hezbollah.

It may be unfair and one sided, but that is not what you accused him of.

I stand by my previous comments. Especially the first one about Arab states criticizing the Hezzies.

Thanks for your note.

Those are Sunni Arab states not Shia states.

That is the massive difference.
