LOS ANGELES - Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed an executive order Monday asking state department heads to develop plans for spending $240 million creating electronic medical records for rural communities and health safety-net providers.
The order also seeks ideas on developing public-private partnerships to improve information technology for hospitals, doctors and other health care providers.
The governor made the announcement at a health summit in Los Angeles where he brought together leaders from business, labor unions, universities and patient advocacy groups to explore ways to lower health care costs and insure more people.
Schwarzenegger also announced he wants to create new medical clinics in 500 elementary schools to provide easy access to health care for children. There are 147 such clinics in California schools now.
At the conclusion of the summit, the governor said he hopes to have proposals for reforming the state's health care system by January so he can make them a major theme of his State of the Union address, if he is re-elected.
"I want to drive this all the way until we have coverage for everyone," he said.
What a completely horrible idea. There goes confidentiality.

Executive (more socialism) order without consent of the governed.
More of this public-private partnership garbage. How about government just doing the job they are constitutionally responsible for doing and let private enterprise do the rest. This partnership jazz stinks to high heaven, IMO.

Government sure has the HOTS to get your medical records into electronic form, don't they?
Won't that just make it easier for them to browse through the stuff and get on your back?
Makes it easier and more convenient for them to violate/ignore the 4th Amendment.

Sweet for who? Get the government out of the healthcare business. There is no reason (that I can see) that would warrant any "partnerships" in this subject area (which often create pseudo governmental bodies or give authority to unelected, unaccountable groups.)
UGH! Where is a person to go! Stop the world--I wanna get off! lol.
And the alternative? WASS!

Angelides pledged to sponsor legislation to expand the state's Healthy Families Program and force all companies with more than 200 employees to provide health insurance for workers and their families - a proposal the governor's re-election campaign said would cost California businesses more than $7 billion.
