Bush Frees Up Flag Displays

WASHINGTON -- President Bush on Monday signed a bill that would bar condominium and homeowner associations from restricting how the American flag can be displayed.

Sponsored by Rep. Roscoe Bartlett, R-Md., the resolution would prohibit those groups from preventing residents from displaying an American flag on their own property.

It was passed unanimously by both the House and the Senate.

This in an issue only because the federal courts made burning Old Glory an imaginary right. If the courts stay out of politics maybe politicians won't have to overrule the awful courts.

I'm still waiting for the arsonist who steal or burn OTHER peoples flags (and it DOES happen) to be charged with hate crimes (because obviously vandalism and theft laws are insufficient when dealing with some haters).

And why is it criminal to burn your own cross on your own property but protected "speech" to burn a flag on public property?

Kudos for Rep. Roscoe Bartlett, R-Md., for introducing this legislation and an "atta boy", for W.

Now, if W wants to earn big time Kudos, he would execute an Executive Order protecting the Mt. Soledad National War Memorial from having its cross destroyed.

Well, well, it's nice to see that somebody thinks we should have as much right to DISPLAY AND HONOR the Flag, as we do to DESECRATE it.

I personally find restrictions on flying Old Glory just as disgusting and wrong as burning the Flag. Different, but no less distasteful. One ought to be able to fly the Flag on one's own property any way one pleases. (Hopefully, in a proud and respectful manner, of course.)

I suppose I'd draw the line at placing the Flag over one's windshield while driving, but only for the sakes of safety, and of respect to the Flag.
