Head of the anti-Syrian bloc in the Lebanese parliament, Sa’ad el-Hariri, met with a cardinal, a member of the Vatican staff, discussing the ongoing warfare between Israel and Hizbullah.

According to official Vatican reports, Hariri called on the Vatican to intercede towards halting the ongoing Israeli military offensive.

What a stroke of genius! The Pope has so much say in the Jewish community.

Why can't the Muslims and the Jews settle their differences like good Christians?

[Joke!]

Ok. Now you're over the line. The Church protected a lot of Jews during that time. They could have done more, but lets not highjack into Catholic bashing here.

Evidently Sa’ad el-Hariri didn't get the message. The Pope has already urged catholics to pray to Mary for intercession.

It isn't about Catholic bashing but it is about perception by non Catholics. That statement made in the name of the Pope last week definitely left the perception that the Catholic Church does not care about the Jewish people and thinks Hizbollah are the victims. I read the discussion thread where people were trying to explain that the Pope was speaking to the Lebanese Christians. It doesn't matter because the world perceived the remark as being anti-Israel. I am a Catholic so I can say that I am deeply disappointed that the Church does not hire a better PR firm. It is ALL about perception not about hidden meanings from fired Cardinals. I tend to agree that rather than get into the middle of politics, they would be better off saying nothing.
