France Joins U.S.: Israel Has a Right to Defend Itself 01:30 Jul 17, '06 / 21 Tammuz 5766
(IsraelNN.com) France joined voices with the United States on Sunday in asserting that Israel has the right of self-defense in the face of ceaseless terror and rocket attacks.
Israel must defend itself, said French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy, and it had the right to do so. He added, however, that Israel should exercise restraint in dealing with the threat.
There is an aggressive element in the Middle East, he said, and that is Hizbullah. As friends of Israel we must advise it to maintain level-headedness and restraint.

He added, however, that Israel should exercise restraint in dealing with the threat. Just what is "restraint" anyway? I would like someone to define restraint within the context of the situation. At what point does retaliation become too much?
If anything, Israel has been too careful considering the fact that her neighbors want to hear nothing of peaceful coexistence. The only time Israel's neighbors seriously consider peace is when they need to reload.

Naw, France has been a secret ally of Israel for quite awhile. The chips are being called in.

There were a couple of anchors on FOX news today who were "bitch slapping" any interviewee who dared infer that Israel was at fault for this situation.
It was refreshing.

That's what I'm thinking. Or else this person will soon be denounced by French government officials as a traitor.

Wait a minute. ...is this one of those "alternate universe" threads? Its Sarkozy. French conservative. Hopefully, Chirac's replacement (and I keep hoping, the guy who slaps the cuffs on Chirac).

When I heard that Hamas was elected in Palestine I knew that would ultimately be good news. I knew they would implode. Despite the doomsayers over that election, I saw it as good news in the long term.
: And now what do we have? Hamas-led govt making stupid moves that even many in the Arab world are condemning. No surprise that even France cannot support the Palestinians on this one.
My prediction is that Israel is gonna win this one...both militarily and politically.

"He added, however, that Israel should exercise restraint in dealing with the threat." Ah yes, that is so...................French of the sonuvabitch.
Has he EVER directed the murderous, lying Islamists to "exercise restraint" --- even when the Muslim "yoooots" were burning France down?

Sarkozy seems to be the only one in the French Gov't who has his head on straight. Hopefully, he will run and be elected President next election.
