Time to crush terror

Following the London bombings a year ago, I asked in this space how long the civilized world would continue to deny the reality of a war declared on it by modern day al-Qaida bandits and their global affiliates?

In the aftermath of the most recent terrorist bombings of passenger trains in Mumbai, India, evidence of the civilized world's continued reluctance to respond adequately and with conviction to the asymmetrical warfare unleashed by Islamists has become more alarming than the irrefutable depravity of al-Qaida terrorists.

The culture of denial among the weak and the corrupt is an admission of incapacity by these people of managing the world they inhabit.

Denial in such circumstance demonstrates preference of an inconsequential people for a nostalgic past or an improbable future rather than contending with requirements of the present. When denial becomes the reflexive response of the strong then it is an evasion of responsibility -- instead of doing what is self-evidently right, an escape is sought in the labyrinth of legalism and fake morality.

Islamists have succeeded this far in turning the strength of democracies to their advantage. They have exploited the restraint of modern civilization that opts in criminal justice for proportionality, restitution and rehabilitation as evidence of guilt and weakness.

Islamists declared war on the modern world much before Sept. 11, 2001. But the modern world -- despite President George Bush's leadership and effort since 9/11 -- opted instead to study the neuroses of Islamists, discover root causes of their depravity, offer palliatives by acknowledging their grievances as legitimate, and view the warfare launched by them merely as a problem of domestic law and order.

I wrote last year, "Bandits win, if they win at all, when lawfully organized society is drained of its will to eliminate banditry from its midst."

The bandits of al-Qaida are winning -- growing probably in relative strength of membership, resources, ingenuity in striking their enemy and intimidating neutrals -- because democracies remain in denial of what is self-evident in the recent carnage in Mumbai and the continued low level warfare in Kashmir as an integral part of India.

What is required in destroying irreversibly these modern day bandits and their war against the modern world is taking a page from history in the war democracies fought in the last century against German-Italian fascism and Japanese militarism.

In August 1941, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt met in secret and announced the Atlantic Charter as response to the fascists in Europe.

The principle of this Charter -- bringing the resources of democracies together in winning the war unconditionally -- was extended to defeating Japan after its Dec. 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor.

The time is long past to wait upon a corrupt and cynical United Nations to devise a response that should have been prompted by 9/11.

The Charter against terrorism can only be promulgated by democracies with the legitimacy that authorities derive from the will of their people based on the rule of law. Such a Charter would strategically unite the world's most powerful democracy, the United States, with the world's largest democracy, India, and bring together Britain, Australia, Canada, Israel and Japan with invitation to others to join in the common effort to crush Islamist terrorists and those who shelter them.

Unless such a Charter is devised we will continue to have our modern version of Nero fiddling while Rome burns.

It's not up to the UN. In a world of soveriegns, let each choose alliances as seems wise to them. The US has taken leadership (as always), and has attracted the cooperation of many nations who respect and desire such leadership and all the strength and benefits it brings.

Yes, let us now crush terrorism, and damn what the rest of the world thinks.

Who's version? Whos will? A charter is worthless without defining the enemy, and the true enemy is Islam! Eventually there will have to be a war against Islam, like it or not. It is a cult of domination through destruction. It will destroy western civilization if not stopped! There can be no PC consideration for the handful of peace loving muslims vs the extremists. They are indistingishable. They worship the same prophet and the same God as well as read the same book. The Prophets words are clear, destroy anyone and any thing not Islamic, period. We will loose this war on terror if we do not define the enemy

Regrettably, since every Qu'ran following Muslim on the planet is a potential terrorist, crushing terror will have to consist of killing, converting or enslaving them all. That's exactly what their "holy" book tells them to do to us!

And, it is time for Christians throughout the world to support mission work. We need to show the good people of the world that Jesus Christ's world is a much better choice than that of Islam. It's freedom versus slavery in my book. Christians in Indonesia, S. Korea and many parts of the world are getting intense pressure from Islam that we don't see here in the USA.

Personally, I think a lot of our "concert" Christian churches have lost the silence that one needs to open your mind and heart to Christ's teachings. The songs we all have known the words by heart for generations have been tossed for songs on a TV screen written by egotistical musical director's who earn a nice salary. Children go to camp and cannot sing songs together any longer! Anyway, enough rambling!

I think that the terrorists are having a hard go at us -- with America's mind set divided (the left choosing to see them as a nuisance), and them losing Iraq and Afghanistan they must feel demoralized. At best the left and the anti war radicals will get the terrorists hopes up... but as long as Bush is in the White House they will be exterminated if they venture out of Syria and Iran. We have to go after the ant colony...

I loved this line:

"Bandits win, if they win at all, when lawfully organized society is drained of its will to eliminate banditry from its midst."

That is exactly what has happened to the dems - they are "drained of its will" to kill the terrorists.

THIS IS WHY WE CANNOT TRUST THEM WITH NATIONAL SECURITY!!

"The Charter against terrorism"

why not correctly spell this: The Charter against Islam (=terrorism)

"But the modern world -- despite President George Bush's leadership and effort since 9/11 -- opted instead to study the neuroses of Islamists, discover root causes of their depravity, offer palliatives by acknowledging their grievances as legitimate..."

One of the greatest frauds perpertrated by the Left and their Islamic brethern is this idea that "America" is historically at fault for the Arab-world's problems and discontent...acknowledging these so-called grievances as legitimate. Nothing could be further from the truth.

In fact, there is some interesting irony when discussing the Atlantic Charter since it was this Charter that helped America lead the way in pressuring Europe to start recognizing Arab independence following WWII. Part of Atlantic Charter proposed giving power to the people to determine their own governments...thus this was one of the first steps in moving the Mid-East away from their forced mandates and colonial heritage. Unfortunately, even after this, it was still "Europe" and even the UN, who were the major architects in planning the fate of Mid-East statehood.

During the Suez Crisis, it was America who recognized Egypt's right to nationalize the Canal...despite the fact that both France and Britain had purchased those rights earlier and financed its construction. From Afghainstan, to the Muslim secessionist movement in India, (Pakistan) to financial and military aid during the Cold War and support in the Gulf War, Americans have often stood with Muslims and defended them against aggressor nations and persons. In our own naivety and ignorance, we have even supported Muslims against other Christians, whether it was the Muslim secessionist movement in Kosovo and the Balkans...or financially and militarily supporting the Muslim governments in Indonesia/E. Timor as Christians were slaughtered.

Heck, after a decade of complete appeasement (90's), with financial and military aid going to Muslim governments around the world...which we also knew were committing atrocities against minority populations (Turkey, Albania/Balkans and Indonesia)...we still got attacked on 9/11. Muslims can bitch and moan and play the victim all they want. The fact remains that what has been done to them and their "land" was done with their own hands.

Their "great" Ottoman Empire was carved up because of the aggression and choices they made leading up to...and including WWI. The same can be said for WWII, where many of their leaders again, sided with the forces of tyranny and murder. Sadly, so much of the historical division of their land has been a result of their own inabilities to live amongst themselves; Muslims are the number one killer of other Mulims. These people are their own worst enemy...and no amount of blaming America or other people is going to change that.

I agree with your post: NOW is a good time to spread the good word. According to Christian belief, God is Love, and as St. Paul says, "Love is the fulfillment of the law." It leads to trust, which in turn leads to a peaceful society, built on honest dealings, neighbor to neighbor. This is sadly lacking in (far too many) other creeds, based on 'honor' (as in 'honor killings,' not as we think of honor) and leading to centuries-long bloody feuds, destruction of any progress, etc.

I think that your point about Church music is well taken also. I know that many people (ie, my husband and I) no longer feel at home in 'their' church - reinstating the songs we all remember would help bring us back. (We sit at home in the garden every Sunday and sing a few of them, for old times' sake.)

One of the big mistakes people are making in trying to fight Islamist terrorism is fighting back with reason. It is not enough. Man craves faith. Without it, you are not reaching his heart, and hearts need to be changed to overcome the HATE inspired by Mohammad, who I am increasingly seeing as the Anti-Christ. Far too many young Americans are converting to Islam, for its strong guidance and 'spiritual' demands. Our Christian churches have lost their way and gone soft. You can't beat something with nothing. And we have a beautiful 'something' - let's not be so afraid to bring it into play!

Is she OK? It must have been awful for her.

I'm afraid certain followers of Islam are causing much pain in the world.

Happy that you're OK.
