MURTHA DOESNT NEED TO CLARIFY HE NEEDS TO APOLOGIZE
(MONONGAHELA, June 28) Washington County Commissioner and Pennsylvania 12th district Republican Congressional nominee Diana Irey reacting to U.S. Rep. Jack Murthas press release yesterday declaring that he was quoted out of context regarding his recent comments stating that the U.S. presence in Iraq is a greater threat to world peace than the nuclear threat posed by North Korea and Iran today released the following statement:
Yesterday, Jack Murtha said he was quoted out of context regarding his comments on the threat posed to world peace by the U.S. presence in Iraq. He also further clarified his comments, made ten days ago on Meet the Press, regarding a redeployment of U.S. forces to Okinawa.
Unfortunately, were still waiting for Mr. Murtha to clarify his comments insisting that there was a deliberate cover-up by the Marine chain of command regarding events in Haditha last November. And were still waiting for Mr. Murtha to clarify his comments declaring that U.S. Marines had killed innocent civilians in cold blood at Haditha before the NCIS investigation has been completed.
In fact, a clarification in these matters will not be enough. What Mr. Murtha needs to do is not clarify, but apologize.
On May 28, appearing on the ABC News show This Week with George Stephanopoulos, Jack Murtha was asked about the actions of Marine commanders after Haditha, So you believe there was a cover-up? Heres what he said:
No question about it There's no question about what happened. And the problem is, who covered it up? And why did they cover it up? Why did they wait so long? We don't know how far it goes. I mean, it goes right up the chain of command. Right up to General Pace. When did he know about it? Did he order the cover-up? Who ordered the cover-up?
Last Thursdays Los Angeles Times reported that Army Major General Eldon Bargewells report into whether or not there was a cover-up which has yet to be released publicly suggests there was no deliberate cover-up by senior Marine officers.
Jack Murtha was wrong when he said there was no question about it regarding a cover-up. And he was wrong to smear the men and women of our Armed Forces before the first Marine had been charged, before the first court-martial had been convened, before the first soldier had been convicted. He was wrong to act as prosecutor, judge, and jury before all the evidence was in.
Its nice to know that Mr. Murthas outrageous comment regarding the U.S. posing a greater threat to world peace than North Korea or Iran was a misquote. But when will Jack Murtha admit he was wrong and apologize to the Marines and Marine officers he smeared?
Last ping for the evening. Nice job, Mrs. Irey. Keep the pressure on!
Why is there a deadline for fundraising in JUNE?
End of the calendar year's second quarter.
Fantasy New York Times headline, Wednesday, November 8, 2006:
"Murtha Humiliated in Election Loss, Departs in Shame to Okinawa. Also, We're Going Out of Business."
[I believe Ms. Irey said it best a month ago, "SHAME ON YOU JACK MURTHA"]
I totally agree and it's great that she's not letting him off the hook. She demanded that he apologize to the American people for his despicable comments then and she is demanding it now.
Support Ms. Irey and help her retire Murtha.

Diana Irey said it very well. I sincerely hope she is elected to Congress.

Murtha's Anti-War Role Could Imperil Him at Home
by Robert Novak (from Human Events on Line)
Posted Jun 28, 2006
Rep. John Murtha (D.-Pa.) appears to be suffering "Daschle-itis," a figurative disease which makes entrenched incumbents become national celebrities and, in the process, risk alienating the voters that put them in office.
Since seizing his party's anti-war mantle, Murtha has become a great draw for Democratic fundraisers, helping his party boost its prospects for a congressional takeover. Naturally, this helps his party-leadership bid as well.
But at the same time, his outspokenness made him a huge target for the Internet right. His district went for John Kerry with only 51% in 2004. What originally seemed like a long-shot bid by Diana Irey (R.) to unseat Murtha has taken on new credibility as she raises money from the Internet and as Murtha makes more and more outrageous statements.
Murtha's opposition to the war has never been the real issue. His assertion that the U.S. is the greatest danger to world peace is only the most recent and perhaps most striking example of his potentially dangerous venture into the great left. Even more offensive were his statements condemning Marines who allegedly participated in a massacre in Iraq, which gave no regard to the presumption of innocence or the existence of evidence (the Marines involved maintain their innocence).
In fact, by stating that he had high-level confirmation that a massacre occurred, Murtha may have set a trap for himself. As the court martial begins, he is likely to be subpoenaed in the pre-trial hearings to testify to allegations of inappropriate command influence on the trial. He risks having his high-level sources of information exposed, or exposed as flimsy -- or even non-existent.
Irey, who looks quite young, is a bit green, but her handlers see her as great raw material. She has scored a series of unopposed television appearances on Fox News that have helped her raise money, and her message could resonate in what has always been a conservative Democratic district. Murtha was previously known as a pro-life, pro-gun Democrat. He received biennial votes for speaker from Rep. Gene Taylor (D-Miss.), who, until this year, had refused to support any candidate for the position who was pro-choice on abortion. Leaning Democratic Retention.

Irey bump
Well, it looks to me like someone ought to find her an NCO sword. She's got more Marine in her little finger in a few good months than he does in his whole body after all these years.
