As a veteran Couric watcher, I've recently come to follow [without actually watching] doings at The View, since Katie's replacement Meredith Vieira was for years a member of the show's cast. For those unfamiliar with it, The View is an all-female televised coffee klatsch and gabfest of which Barbara Walters is the creator, partial owner and a co-host.
The View has a distinct liberal tint to its patter. And as we know, one of the tenets of feminist theology is that women have a right to whatever kind of body size they want, free of societal restraints.
How ironic - some might say hypocritical - that one reason for the recent firing of co-host Star Jones is that . . . she refused to stay fat! As you'll note from the before and after pics here, Star has undergone a dramatic physical transformation. According to this AP article:
"Walters said ABC network chiefs had decided last fall not to renew Reynolds' contract because its research showed that Reynolds' dramatic weight loss and 2004 wedding to banker Al Reynolds had turned viewers off."
My personal view is that employers, subject to their contractual agreements, should be able to hire and fire as per their own standards. Long live Hooters. But isn't this a case of The View not practicing what it preaches? Why, were the tables turned, some might even accuse a conservative show that fired Jones under similar circumstances of racism, of trying to keep Star down on the 'fat farm.'

From the very few times I've seen Oprah's pal Gayle, it would seem she's much to sophisticated and bright to fit into the mindless chatter on The View.
An ugly "outer-tone" too.
To make myself clear. They all have ugliness on parade when it's a conservative guest, but people don't want to see them attacking each other. Rosie is not a good addition to anyone's coffee clatch.
She did the right thing getting the surgery and methinks the rest of the hags on The View were simply jealous of the new Starr.

I agree. Rosie will want to make every show her about her latest gay "cause". It will be the "Me...It's All About Me" show.
Who watches this crap? A bunch of menopausal hens shooting the breeze. You have to have NO LIFE at all to give a hoot about this soap opera.
The View is for Sucker Moms who can't keep up with the Oprah! Now it has Lezzie O'Donut to spew her hatred.

Yes, "societal restraints" was an unfortunate phrase. What those feminists really want is for their physical appearances to play no role whatsoever in their attractiveness to men...and that is a futile attempt to repeal a law of biology.
And they're moving Rosie O'Donnell into the "Fat" Seat.
A pretty safe move, if you ask me...

What's truly pathetic is that they contemplated replacing Viera with Patricia Heaton (conservative pro-life actress from Everybody Loves Raymond) but decided that the show would be too unbalanced as a result, lol.

I thought Rosie's comments about Jones were hilarious. And truthful. I guess Jones wants to continue to deny that she had surgery to lose weight.
I read that Rosie was replacing Meredith and that there was bad blood between Rosie and Starr because of comments Rosie had made re: Starr's weight loss. So it could be someone else is replacing Star Jones.
