Keep some barf bags handy./
Im not certain , but I bet he hired out the entire casting process...(from the maquette on up) in short he probably did nothing more than provide the concept and ok the wax.
Jeff Koons does that, he hires Italians to make his stuff for him..
LOL!! You got THAT right, Sam!
I guess then that it at least qualifies for "conceptual" art :-D
Hi, Suzi!
It's pretty bad, but you can never predict the unintended consequences. This "artist" might unwittingly cause someone to look at the unborn baby and see that it is more than just a mass of tissue. Voila, same result as the controversial pro-life exhibits without the controversy.
No formalin, no problem.
"Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn."
Fine books (so I hear). Just don't keep them out of the NY Public Library too long! :-)
Howdy!! Isn't it amazing what some folks will peddle as art? Almost as amazing, though, is the fact that others will actually pay good money for this stuff!
My thoughts precisely.
Boring. It looks just like one of those plastic anatomy models from health class. Maybe he'll do a giant teeth one next like my dentist has.
It makes you appreciate skin
Good point, Larry. We can only hope. Otherwise it's a technically well done piece but I definitely do not share Ms. Devane's point of view that it's 'beautiful'. (I also wonder why Hirst chose to name it The 'Virgin' Mother.)
she's missing her pectoralis major muscle, usually present right under the breast.
And since the kids is on one side, it means she must be expecting twins.
I thought the baby might just be on the right
Ugly. Lacking imagination. Reflection of a twisted mind.
There's alot that amazes me about the "art world." Starting with its abandonment of standards about 50 years ago. How can you tell if something's any good if you don't have standards with which to measure it? The answer, of course, is to read the pompous little note on the wall next to the unintelligable piece of art!
That being said, there is a lot of abstract art that I really enjoy, that I think is very good. Honest work, in other words.
There are a few abstract pieces that I like; usually it has more to do with the colors of the piece. But I mostly like art that is recognizable as representative of something, not that someone has to 'interpret' for me.
Well in that case he has no redeeming qualities !
Those Italians on the other hand probably just need better PR. Or maybe a better patron. It makes one appreciate Renaissance Popes, however corrupt. They were, at least, far less depraved than modern art collectors and critics.
