President Bush has put forward a comprehensive vision for immigration reform that will secure our borders, strengthen interior enforcement and create a temporary worker program that is not amnesty but will provide a legal, regulated path for those seeking work in the United States.Pure BS!

We want to see enforcement first, then later we can talk about expanding our current guest worker quotas if needed.
A bit off-topic, but I'm curious to know if it would be effective to make a citizen's arrest of an illegal alien. Having read where at least one FReeper was involved in a wreck with an illegal, and the cop simply turned the guy loose, could a citizen's arrest have accomplished anything?

Always a big fat "but" where "not amnesty" is concerned.

If you are here illegally you should be deported immediately.
Arrest all illegals and throw them all out.
You want to be here? Come legally and follow the law.

After reading an article in the paper today about a young lady who found out that her social security number has been used by 83 illegals has burned my butt. No help from the feds or IRS in tracking down these criminals. The amount of taxes paid by these criminals was minimal on the stolen number. I just received a letter from the IRS just two months after filing stating I did not cross a T or something. Well if the IRS turns out wanting to audit me I will tell them that I will absolutely comply with anything they want ONLY after they show me the list of 20 million audits done on illegals in this country first. It is time for us legals to stand up and demand accountability.

Build a "virtual fence" to stop the invasion.
Develop a "comprhensive" plan to reward lawbreakers.
Grant "not amnesty" to illegals.
Is this the Bush plan or the Fox plan? Maybe they got together to make it "comprehensive."

It's astonishing how easily these people (Bush included) lie. It's very Clintonesque.

The only ones still supporting "comprehensive" reform these days appear to be from the Bush administration. The idea has practically dropped off the radar screen since Hastert declared the Senate scam all but dead.

President Bush has put forward a comprehensive vision for immigration reform that will secure our borders, strengthen interior enforcement and create a temporary worker program that is not amnesty but will provide a legal, regulated path for those seeking work in the United States. This must be from 15 years ago, since this President Bush has presented no such plan.

The immigration bills are dead according to Boehner. Hastert doesn't want a divisive issue before the elections and clearly the right is split over this issue. Our house has been doing a good job in my opinion, to pass legislation that is more in line with enforcing immigration. We need to get rid of all the RINOs in the senate who are effectively screwing up our party.

No sale.
You want "guest workers"?????
Fine, I mean, I'm not at all convinced we need them given how well the country ran in 1957 without them, but I'll be happy to put up with your guest worker program PROVIDED several conditions are met.
- The border with Mexico is sealed tighter than a drum, and some point of departure for guest workers is set up offshore so that EVERYTODY in south/central America can have a fair shot at it and not just Mexicans.
- The people using the cheap labor pay the full cost of it including medical costs. I.E. do not send the American taxpayers any bills for it.
- Guest workers wives and kids stay behind and await the guest workers' return a year or two hence.
- Candidates show some aptitude for dealing with the English language before they are allowed in.
- Candidates pass some minimal medical exam before they get in. No fleas, lice, or evidence of infectious diseases.
Then again, if all of that is too worrisome for government officials to handle, there is always MY version of a "guest worker" plan...

Regarding the proposed tamper-proof ID card for legal foreign workers:
Suppose Jose says, "I don't need one. I was born in America and am an American citizen. The only reason my English isn't very good is because I've spent most of my life in Mexico (or whevever)."
Does anyone know whether or not the proposed law addresses a scenario like this?

The president rightly got praise he deserved for the WOT. I said he deserved the bump in the polls. But if he thinks he can use that to push amnesty he is DEAD wrong. Those polls will fall right back down again.
