But I am asking, do you think the United States' practices in World War II were as evil as Nazi Germany's? Simple question. The United States' practice of interring Japanese-American citizens during World War II was reprehensibly evil.
That it was relatively less evil than Nazi Germany's practices does not make it any less evil.

The term should have become inflammatory during the Boor War, but it didn't. There were even early Shirley Temple movies made praising the Brits in that war, despite their use of concentration camps.

So if nobody dies, it's OK to force American citizens of certain ethnicities or religions into internment camps, to be held for an indeterminate period of time?C'mon, sinkspur! It's how the West was won!
(They were called "reservations.")

I thought the worst thing FDR ever did included having Communists in his inner circle, like Hiss. Ignoring the plight of Jews during WWII was the single worst thing any American government did in the 20th century and resulted in thousands, if not millions, of deaths.
American politicians in the early 1940s, led by FDR, were as craven and cowardly as any in this country's history.

That is arguing strictly from emotion. No facts needed there huh?
Concentration camps carry a historical meaning. So do internment camps.
There was no government intention to kill or exterminate either Japanese or German internees. You can argue the wisdom of internment camps in hindsight but that is all.
They were not concentration camps no matter how much you hyperventilate and stamp your foot and demand they were.

If you read his home page, you'd have realized that it's a waste of time to argue with someone like him. He has waaaayy to much time on his hands and likes to bloviate, so to speak......

I have not purchased either of the Seattle slimes papers in over 8 years. I refuse to insult my dog by putting them down under his food or water bowls.

Swing and a miss, strike one. I am not arguing in favor of internment camps in the present. I do not suggest putting Muslims in camps because the basic tenants of their religion can be seen as a national security threat.
I can understand the mindset of the forties. It doesn't matter whether you agree or disagree with the practice. It happened. That is history. What you cannot do, though, is call them concentration camps. That is a lie.

In terms of caustic, Molly Ivins is sulfuric acid splashed in the face, in comparison to Ann's gentle menthol tingle.

I did not call them concentration camps. But I disagree with Malkin's approval of them, in hindsight.
They were completely unnecessary, and were set up to satisfy the xenophobia of the American populace.

That it was relatively less evil than Nazi Germany's practices does not make it any less evil. That sentence is about as logically sound as your argument.
If evil only admits of one degree, then you may have a point. But interning thousands of American citizens ostensibly to prevent their collaborating with the enemy is vastly different than herding millions of a certain relgio-ethnic group into camps to be either executed or worked to death.
It's the difference between a felony and a misdemeanor.

So, if they were not "concentration camps", and certainly were not "internment camps", what were they?
