No, I think he has a point.

It's important for society to participate in our wars - at home and the military. During WWII we had bond drives and ration cards, victory gardens, etc..

I think these are very very important, regardless of their actual value to the war effort.

I think it's a mistake to not include things like this in the WOT.

I think you made the point better then he did. I very much agree.

Was the war in Vietnam and Korea like this where the population was so disconnected?
I don’t know.

I disagree. because America won WWII, we tend to look at virtually every aspect of the way it was run as a success. The rationing of WWII was another form of Rossevelt's solutions from central planning. In reality, the point of the WOT or any other war is to get the enemy to change their way of life or die--- to make them sacrifice. Where was Gandolfini when Democrats were trying to pare down the budget for Afghanistan and Iraq?

One moment Democrats like Gandolfino are complaining there's not enough sacrifice, the next moment they're complaining that money spent in the WOT could go to schools, gas costs too much, etc. This is a guy who was a part of the Streisand Bon Jovi celebs for Kerry. He's not supporting the war effort, he's (in his mind) supporting the troops by attacking the war effort-- i.e. "we shouldn't be there, but since we are there, we should 3eithe reinstitute the draft or leave Iraq!" Good for him for caring about the safety of the troops-- but I don't think he deserves any more credit than that. This is in the same vein as Shinseki's call for 500,000 troops in that Shinseki's point was that the United States shouldn't go in at all. It is most of all like Rangel's calls to reinstate the draft--- typical leftist crap.

I agree, I think we should do these things also.

I planted tomatoes for the first time this year, since we eat so many. I think those'll be my victory tomatoes.

OTOH - if any of these things were done, especially ration cards, could you imagine the uproar? War is ok as long as people aren't inconvenienced when they turn the news off.

Profiling, Internment, Dissent and a Declaration of War provides some insight into what would happen if we were operating under World War II Rules.
