The most important aspect of immigration reform is to secure the border.
The media and the pro-illegal agenda have created the myth that we cant secure the border unless we do something for the 11 million. All of the bills being proposed in the US Senate only delay the House bill that deals directly with the border problem. American voters want to remove the 11 million out of this country by attrition and enforcement
The recall election of Pro-illegal immigration Governor Grey Davis was won by Arnold Schwarzenegger, who also got 31 percent of the Hispanic vote after opposing SB60 (drivers licenses for illegals) and having Pete Wilson in his camp. Bustamante, the most popular pro-illegal candidate, got only 52 percent of the Hispanic vote and of course lost.
In Arizona Proposition 200, another law blocking illegals from welfare, passed easily with a 56 percent yes vote, including 44% of the Hispanic vote
California, already a liberal state in 1992, voted for Prop 187 in 1994 which denied illegals welfare. This resolution was voted for by 25% of hispanics.
Illegal alien groups challenge these propositions in courts knowing that millions of illegals depend on welfare to stay in the US. They succeeded with Prop187.
Making illegals leave by attrition through enforcement will not destroy the US economy
Illegals are less than 5% of the workforce, they are not a majority in any industry nor are they the backbone of the economy.
Many of the companies such as Tyson Foods that hire illegals make billions in profits and could easily increase their wages to hire the majority of US workers in their industry.
The same economic excuse to defend illegal labor was used to successfully defend slavery in the US for decades, resulting in the Civil War. Similar excuses were made to defend child labor. The Cost of a guest worker program for Arkansas is too expensive for the Arkansas taxpayer
Currently, Arkansas pays $117 million for illegals. By 2010, it will be $202 million and by 2020, it will be $356 million
Arkansas requested $451,000 million from the federal government in 1999 for the incarceration of illegal aliens in state and local jails and prisons. They received only $174,000, leaving Arkansas taxpayers to pay the remaining $277,000.
23% percent of immigrants in Arkansas have incomes below the poverty level. Among non-citizens, the rate climbs 27%.
In Springdale plans to add an elementary school every 2 years from now until 2010 wont be enough to handle population growth. Schools are so crowded that hundreds of students are being bused to campuses outside their neighborhoods.
Arkansas Ping
I would be wonderful if you'd cite your sources.
Call me a cynic, but I don't believe anyone's stats until I see the background internals on those numbers.
Been to any Tyson chicken plant lately?
