It depends who is calling the shots. 'Destroy' may not mean a military destruction either, but an economic weakening or simply marginalizing the US in the world.

Remember the old Sting song about the Cold War- ...the Russians love their children too..- this may have kept us from going into a nuclear war, but it didn't stop the Russians from doing everything they could to minimize the US economy and influence...

Still, the idea of having guards with guns pointing South just doesn't strike me as American.

That's what the moonbats want you to believe. Their guns are for their personal protection, not to shoot illegals crossing the border illegally. The barrier simply slows them down enough that they can be caught more easily. You don't need one that goes coast to coast because the terrain in and of itself is a barrier.

I believe everyone who wants a gun ( as long as not a criminal) should have a gun and it would be useful against some of the lawless coyotes that come across. No question. And as long as we understand the terrain is itself a barrier is a good start. We just don't need a triple layered barbed wire fence with guard towers every 600 yards. That's what's abhorrent to me. When Reagan called for tearing down the wall, I know it was to let the people out...it still isn't the image of the Shining City on the Hill I think he had in mind.

They WILL take back the Southwest through the ballet box. Our form of government allows the people to decide through self government. If population trends continue...Hispanics will OWN the vote in California, New Mexico, Arizona, parts of Texas. If they're all recent immigrants - legal or not - where will their allegiance be. Shear numbers. Shear numbers.

Complete nonsense. The Southwest will never again be part of Mexico. Try researching the Confederate States of America if you don't understand why this "Reconquest" rant by the Mike Savagite Know Nothings is utter nonsense.

Russians from doing everything they could to minimize the US economy and influence...

Again, respectfully, there are not any Russians already here for Russia to try and sabotage our economy. Remember, we are the producers...all they want is our money, they're not going to kill the goose with the golden eggs.

Half the people running California have links to LaRaza. The more they dumb down the schools, the more these people gain control -- wasn't that the Clinton plan in Arkansas to stay in power?

Here I strongly disagree. We had a large German population during WW I and WW II. Many did support the German side, but MOST supported America. Most Russians who were here supported this country. In general, immigrants realize how much better they have it here and after the first generation especially their loyalties are to the USA.

Please don't be offended, but the more I look into the LaRaza argument, the more I see this as nothing but a strawman argument with very little basis in reality.

Do we honestly believe that, even if LaRaza successfully plants enough politicians in the Southwest and Mexican National voters, they would actually vote to succeed from the US and become part of Mexico. Do illegal immigrants from Mexico actually look across the border to Mexico and say how wonderful the US would be if it were like Mexico? Do they yearn to make $9 a month instead $9 an hour?

The LaRaza is the 'worst case scenario' argument whose reality is limited to fiction novels.

Now, having Mexico become influenced by Communist Venezuela is very much a reality.

Mark is absolutely right...I have said it so many times, if you make LEGAL immmigration reasonable, you can discourage and defeat illegal immigration.

When Reagan called for tearing down the wall,

Sadly, my hero and whom I named my first dog after, F-ed up this whole thing giving amnesty instead of enforcing the laws.

I was actually referring to Russians in terms of the USSR and past history, not current. I agree, right now, they want our money, and thus, they have a stake in our economic success and security. If their 'golden egg' came from elsewhere, especially if the golden egg was anti-US, they would not have a stake in our success and security.

The problem with your analogy is try making frog soup with ten million frogs, 99.99999% of which would prefer not to be made into soup. You may be able to catch some, but not enough to counterweigh those that escape the soup pot.

Obviously, not much interest until the price of gas shot up ... That being said, when something looks too good to be true, it usually is.
