"Perhaps no issue before the Senate in recent history has elicited more emotion from both sides of the debate than the issue of illegal immigration. My job as a U.S. senator is to see through the cloud of emotional rhetoric blurring the debate and act in the best interests of the United States and the citizens of Colorado.
The principle upon which I rely to guide me through this debate is simple: the rule of law.
While America is a nation of immigrants, it is also a nation of laws. The rule of law is the foundation of our society upon which all else is built, and without which all else would crumble. Immigration laws are no exception.

How freakin' refreshing is that.
Mr President, are you LISTENING?
Ping!
No one to blame but Bush for that sad fact. Post 9/11 our vaunted WOT as allowed approximately 5 million illegals "living in the shadows" to sneak into our country. What a joke.
I'm still not hearing anything about our International Airports. The focus is mis-spent on Mexicans.
Okay, I might get blasted here...but I find it so ironic when I read/hear a Colorado politician playing hardball on immigration...when I heard that in Denver, the libraries have the Mexican flag hanging outside an all spanish library...at least that is what I heard!!!
I used to live in Boulder...so I get mad, when I hear Tancrado and others taking on the President...when their own state is about as liberal..and pro-immigrant as they come.
Colorado is evenly split three ways between Republican, Democrat, and Independent. Denver, Boulder, Pueblo, Aspen, Telluride are the liberal hot spots. The Denver suburbs are Republican or lean Independent. Colorado Springs is Republican.
Tancredo represents Douglas and Jefferson County, and wins by large margins.
At least one of our Senators (Allard) gets it! The other Senator (Salazar)is a Kennedy butt-boy.
Salazar is not only bad...but he misrepresented himself when he campaigned...(not that they all don't to a certain extent)...
He isn't the only one...Mel Martinez, in Florida, who Bush actually campaigned for..has been a disappointment as well.
Oh, and don't let my nick deceive. I'm of NW European stock, purely, albeit humbly peasant DNA, with neanderthal red hair-ness.
How did Sen. Wayne Allard vote on the immigration law? Its how you vote that counts.
They haven't taken a vote on the whole bill yet, they are still debating and putting in amendments.
I'm really sick of this nation of immigrants BS. The US is a nation of CITIZENS regardless of ethnic background. This is what makes us different from every other country. Once an immigrant becomes a citizen then he or she becomes and American in all ways. An immigrant who is not a citizen can't be expected to have loyalty to the country, the Constitution and our way of life.
I checked his voting record on the amendments that have been put forward already....and he voted the exact same way that Sessions, Kyl, and Cornyn did (they are the ones that are fighting like heck to defeat this bill)...except for one time...and it was kind of a middle of the road type vote...not bad, IMHO>
Either you are for securing the border or you are not. If you ARE, you have no problem building a wall. If you aren't, you will find every excuse under the sun to avoid making border enforcement THE issue. Allard is a real life actual conservative. He wants the border closed FIRST and then the 'comprehensive' part figured out.
Yep, Not completely positive but certainly heading in the right direction.. I do like what he said though, which is basically if in doubt stick to the laws.. it cuts though all that touchy feely bs that libs and rats thrive on. ;)
Touchy feely is right...I was watching as much of the Senate as I could last week...and the speeches talking about the poor illegals were sickening...especially by Durbin and Harry Reid...
I am SURE if they played those speeches on prime time national networks...not only would the House measure get pushed by all Americans...but I have no doubt that Harry and Durbin would lose their seats...
"I have no doubt that Harry and Durbin would lose their seats..."
Is that a promise? ;^)
I don't think I would have to worry about breaking a promise..since it would be a cold day in hell before the networks would show what really goes on in Congress...
AND, there is a lot going on that we never see on C-span, also...THAT is what gets us in bigger trouble..the behind the doors deals.
Apparently the voters (similar to the voters in most states) don't get it. They pull the lever for an Allard-type which is great and then they turn around and pull the lever for a lefty such as Salazar.
No wonder this country is screwed up.
