In Reply to Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska
Immigration News Daily ^ | 5/17/06 | Editors

Sen. Chuck Hagel was quoted as saying today: "This is not amnesty, so let's get the terms right," Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska lectured fellow Republicans who condemned the bill. "Come on. Let's stop the nonsense."

We at Immigration News Daily decided to take up Sen. Hagel on his offer to get the terms right. In doing so we unearthed an earlier editorial which compared the terms Amnesty and the Senates 'guest worker' provision. We thought it would be worth re-posting here so that Sen. Hagel would have a readily accessible reference to the meaning of the terms as used by the Senate, past and present.

Amnesty (noun).

Amnesty is generally a term for a blanket pardon for some offense committed by a class of people. The effect is to forgive offenders while perhaps also extending some benefit, for which they either lacked or was denied prior. In the case of US immigration, the affect is to forgive those who have entered the country illegally and to offer them the opportunity of citizenship under certain prescribed terms and conditions.

One can define bank robbery as entering a bank armed and demanding money. There is also other ways to holdup a bank as well. For instance, one could kidnap the bank president's wife and demand via telephone for the bank to release money to a certain location if he wishes to ever see her alive again without ever stepping foot in the bank with a weapon.

The motive and result is still bank robbery with kidnapping thrown in.

And so it goes with this guest worker proposal: Proponents are motivated to pardon a class of people for the act of illegally entering the country and to provide a means towards citizenship, which currently does not exist for them. All the doublespeak, sugarcoating and spin cannot hide the motive behind the Senates 'guest worker' provision: It's the same motive that can be found behind the failed Amnesty Act of 1986.

By definition half of all Senators are below average intelligence. Hagel is so dumb he has to be told every day how to comb his hair.

Amnesty (noun).

They are here today illegally, if the day after tomorrow they are here legally then they received 'amnesty'. Citizenship is NOT the issue them being here illegally is the issue.

If Chuck Hagel told me there was zero chance of precipitation today, I'd leave the house wearing a rain coat and carrying an umbrella.

Do we have any grownups in Washington? If our elected representatives believe that guest worker plans are not amnesty just because one doesn't call it amnesty, I have to wonder.

The question I've been met with lately is, "When has the President, Senator Willshuffle, etc., ever used the word amnesty?"

I'd hit the lumberyard and then drop by the zoo, my friend.

I used have some wonderful Scottish neighbors who came over through the system and were required to go home because they couldn't get their visa's renewed after 9/11.

This amnesty stuff is so unfair to all those who have played by the rules.

Without laws and rules that are followed, we will fall into anarchy.

His bill goes far, far beyond amnesty-ing illegals already here.

Moreover, 58% of illegal aliens today are Mexicans, while would be immigrants from the world over are patiently waiting on line.

The backlog this would create will mexicanize our immigration and discriminates against those lawful would-be immigrants, many of whom have higher skills and are better candidates for coming to our country.

This is patently unfair, unjust, unwise, anti-rule-of-law, and contrary to our best interests.

Very true. These people came here for jobs and opportunity - a better life. Citizenship was not the reason they came. But they'll take it since Bush is offering it to them.

You don't understand, Bush promises these illegals will be sent to the back of the line. I think you have some "fuzzy information". I believe Bush. He would never lie to me. (rolls eyes/sarcasm)

As well, they're talking about making all these new rules and laws, when we're not adhering to the ones on the damn books. It's W and a huge portion of the GOP acting the same way that the libs do with gun control.

They know damn well that illegals will never be made to "learn English" and jump through all of these other hoops and rings that Tony Snow was talking to Hannity about today.

For them to believe that we actually believe them is absurd.

Don't forget that Tony Snow is an all-out supporter of amnesty and is now a policy advisor to the President.

I hear that this puss-bag will be around till at least 2010.

So, it looks like we have two options.

1. (for patriots in Nebraska)start weeding out this bum's allies in the state g.o.p.

2. (for the rest of us)We declare war on the RINOS and the party hacks that back these guys.
