WASHINGTON (Reuters) - More than 40 percent of women surveyed in the Seattle area reported they had been physically or psychologically abused by their husbands, dates or boyfriends, researchers said on Wednesday.

Note the psychological abuse (think about how broadly that can be defined) being lumped together with physicial abuse.

And a second study showed that women who have been slapped, kicked or otherwise abused were four times more likely to report severe depressive symptoms and three times more likely to report fair or poor health.

And what percentage of the 40% was this? This is the spin.

Omitted material.

For their study, Thompson and colleagues interviewed a random sample of more than 3,400 women members of a Seattle health maintenance organization.

Which "health mantenance organization?

They found 44 percent of the women, aged 18 to 64, had suffered some form of what they call "intimate partner violence." Most reported more than one type -- for example, physical violence and verbal threats.

Anyone what to bet me that physical violence and verbal threats were not the most often reported tandem?

Omitted Material.

The studies, funded by the U.S. federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, mesh with previous estimates that show anywhere between 25 to 50 percent of women may have experienced abuse.

Define abuse?

Of the women who were abused, 13 percent said it had persisted for more than 20 years.

What percentage of this is verbal abuse.

I have been married for 35 years. The only abuse I have encountered was 34 years ago. My wife got mad at me for some thing or other and ran up to me and started punching me in the chest.

I countered by giving her one shot to the thigh.

Nothing but words since that day.

I see Sharia law is catching on in the great (unwashed) NW. Coming down from Islamonada.

In Seattle, being abused means dating a guy who bathes, watches FOX and doesn't wear Birkenstocks.

physically or psychologically abused ..

Puh-lease. A lot of women feel they've been psychologically abused evry time they get dumped or their man doesn't see things their way.

I'd hate to be a male in Seattle. Can you even imagine having no one to date but liberal loonies? No wonder so many are of that pathetic species, liberalis emasculitus

That's a whole hell of a lot of territory. Seems the number should be about 100% for men and women. I can rattle off a whole lotta psychological abuse.

Just a guess, but I would bet serious money the left wing demographics of Seattle directly correspond to these "abuse" statistcs.

I'm so sick of this crap. Why don't we ever see surveys of how many men have been falsely accused of sexual harassment or some other feminist canard?

You guys just are insensitive to the plight of women. Just remember the facts:

Minorities can't be racist.

Women can't be abusive.

... whereas, in the rest of the country, it just means that the women did not "get their way" or win the argument ...

Was this story really newsworthy? LOL
