CNN Poll [John Podhoretz] David Frum, the smartest man I know, got it wrong. CNN has a poll just up, and the results are staggeringly in the president's favor. 79 percent of those who watched had a very favorable or favorable view of the speech, and those who support the president's policies rose in number from 42 to 67 percent. Not shocked, it was actually a good speech. One of his better performances, with just him and camera.
Most encouraging
Fickle voters. That kind of dramatic swing indicates that most Americans are bipolar. Good news for W. Bad news for the naysayers.
It won't satisfy the ultras, and it doesn't satisfy me, but we are CLEARLY starting to move this ball in our direction. KEEP IT UP.
I can't access my personal mail account from work, and I'm SO itching to to email Podhoretz today and ask him, oh so nicely, to stick a sock in it. If he wants a higher caliber of discussion over this, he could shut up and stop rubbing salt onto the ouchy bits for a moment.
Of course they will just double their efforts with the MSM to put as much negative spin as they can.
Bush the Dummy has used the old Ju-Jitsu on his political opponents once again--this time on many in his own party, who you'd think would be wise to this by now. :)

I am not really interested in a speech which causes poll numbers to go up. I am much more interested in protecting our borders from this, and any, illegal invasion. I see that President Bush is making a small move in the right direction. It isn't much of a move and it isn't strong enough. It is a start.

Yep--some seem to want the whole problem solved in one speech, but a good start is just that. Now we need to get more of the House bill and less of the amnesty.
There are 19,000 United States troops protecting the border of Iraq right now. There are thousands still protecting the border of West Germany, even though the nations merged what seems long ago. There are thousands protecting the border of South Korea from the north.
Why is it so hard for the American people to get that same level of protection at home?
Well, I may be in the lonely not-so-vocal minority here on FR, but I thought it was a good speech and a good start on a difficult problem. There are those who won't be happy until every single illegal and all their descendants are rooted out and kicked back over the border which is then sealed with a laser fence which zaps to death anyone who crosses it, and, on the other hand, those who won't be happy until every single illegal is registered to vote Democrat. Meanwhile, I've moved on to wanting to see what the Senate will do, and have sent e-mails urging them to come up with a realistic solution which preserves our security.
So it begins. The Bush comeback. As long as Rove isn't indicted, happy days are here again. :)
Why is it so hard for the American people to get that same level of protection at home?

We need to push harder. First time in my life I've seen alleged "leaders" have to be kick started in order to get moving on an issue.
