Author says CU prof used picture of hers without permission...
The photograph of a child's grave in University of Colorado ethnic studies professor Ward Churchill's 2004 book about Indian boarding schools jumped out at Brenda Child.
That's because Child, a member of the Red Lake Ojibwa tribe, took the picture and published it in 1998 in her own award-winning book on the same subject.
"I was surprised that was there because he's never sought my permission to use it and it appeared without my knowing that it would be in his book," said Child, a University of Minnesota faculty member in American studies.
Worse, from Child's standpoint, is the caption Churchill appended to the photograph. It said that half the children at the nation's Indian boarding schools suffered the same fate as the child whose grave is pictured in the photograph.
That figure is a "tremendous exaggeration," Child said. "That is just beyond belief."
The flap over the photo comes to light just as the university's standing committee on research misconduct prepares to release a report on its investigation of Churchill on seven charges, including whether Churchill falsified data or misrepresented historical facts in some of his scholarly work.
The report could be released as early as today.

Sheesh, don't you know private property is for Little Eichmans, not the anointed.
Ward Churchill will be speaking on the University of Oregon campus in Eugene Thursday, May 18.
Ward will be raising money for the "radical environmentalists and eco-anarchists" who are in jail for arson, etc...
The event will be "a fundraiser for the accused eco-prisoners ..."
Increase Mail's piece by 109%, reverse it, and the two overlap perfectly, down to the shape of the grass and the position of each rider's feathers, even the position of the horses' legs.Yet Churchill still maintains it is an original composition.(Yes, Ward, but why are all your Indians left-handed in the piece?)
SWEET Ann Coulter ...
Tenure was supposed to create an atmosphere of open debate and inquiry, but instead has created havens for talentless cowards who want to be insulated from life.
Rather than fostering a climate of open inquiry, college campuses have become fascist colonies of anti-American hate speech, hypersensitivity, speech codes, banned words and prohibited scientific inquiry.
Even [leftists] don't try to defend Churchill on grounds that he is Galileo pursuing an abstract search for the truth.
They simply invoke "free speech," like a deus ex machina to end all discussion. Like the words "diverse" and "tolerance," "free speech" means nothing but: "Shut up, we win."
I'm not suprised. The Left-Wing has mostly operated dishonestly.
New Ward Churchill Art Discovered ..."Fake but Accurate"...
The fact that this guy is still on the Colorado faculty is just a travesty.
Hundreds of University's staff and professors held rallies for Ward and took out newspaper ads for Ward.
Ward gets his paychecks from the taxpayers. Ward "works" 4 to 6 hours per week, takes the summer and every holiday invented off...paid. He gets health insurance...
He should have been fired long ago. But because of the union and the tenure rules...he stays !
It should be a fatal crime for his career there, but Tenure protects him.
That figure is a “tremendous exaggeration,” Child said. “That is just beyond belief.”Now this just can't be true. Even Noam Chomsky the Great has assured us that “I've read a fair amount of his work, and a lot of it is excellent, penetrating and of high scholarly quality!”The flap over the photo comes to light just as the university's standing committee on research misconduct prepares to release a report on its investigation of Churchill on seven charges, including whether Churchill falsified data or misrepresented historical facts in some of his scholarly work.
It just gets weirder and weirder...
The university is afraid of him.
Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but nobody is entitled to their own facts........
They could withdraw his tenure, but they would be accused of being Indian givers.......
Churchill: "Fragging an officer has a much more impactful effect"
Ward Churchill has made some more despicable comments. This time, he is advocating military personnel to "roll a grenade under their line officer."
When will this anti-American slime ball be fired?
Churchill: "For those of you who do, as a matter of principle, oppose war in any form, the idea of supporting a conscientious objector who's already been inducted in his combat service in Iraq might have a certain appeal.
But let me ask you this: Would you render the same level of support to someone who hadn't conscientiously objected, but rather instead rolled a grenade under their line officer in order to neutralize the combat capacity of their unit?"
"...Conscientious objection removes a given piece of cannon fodder from the fray. Fragging an officer has a much more impactful effect." - Ward Churchill, Portland, Oregon- 6/23/05

They're STILL investigating this idiot? I thought the mills of God ground exceeding slow; apparently they're nothing compared to university types.
