Reform bill to double immigration
Washington Times ^ | 15 May 2006 | Charles Hurt

Posted on 05/14/2006 11:28:56 PM PDT by Racehorse

The immigration reform bill that the Senate takes up today would more than double the flow of legal immigration into the United States each year and dramatically lower the skill level of those immigrants. The number of extended family members that U.S. citizens or legal residents can bring into this country would double. More dramatically, the number of workers and their immediate families could increase sevenfold if there are enough U.S. employers looking for cheap foreign labor. Another provision would grant humanitarian visas to any woman or orphaned child anywhere in the world "at risk of harm" because of age or sex. The little-noticed provisions are part of legislation co-sponsored by Republican Sens. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska and Mel Martinez of Florida, which overcame some early stumbles and now has bipartisan support in the Senate. The bill also has been praised by President Bush, and he is expected to endorse it as a starting point for negotiations in his prime-time address to the nation tonight All told, the Hagel-Martinez bill would increase the annual flow of legal immigrants into the U.S. to more than 2 million from roughly 1 million today, scholars and analysts say. These proposed increases are in addition to the estimated 10 million to 12 million illegal aliens already in the U.S. whom the bill would put on a path to citizenship. These figures also do not take into account the hundreds of thousands of additional immigrants who would be admitted to the U.S. each year under the guest-worker program that is part of the bill. "If there is anyone left in the world, we would accept another 325,000 through the guest-worker program in the first year," said NumbersUSA's Rosemary Jenks, who supports stricter immigration laws.

Republicans are on a suicide mission. They want to lose before the campaign season even begins.

What campaign? The republicans have a secret plan. There is another secret bill on the table. They will abolish elections and declare a monarchy.

the pubbies have a problem. their choices like those of the people on flight 73 are between certain death and near certain death.

If they allow the illegals citizenship--the illegal/legals will do what they did after 1986: vote democratic and tip the country to a democratic majority as they have done in california and that because after 1993 in California many mexicans began voting in california to preserve gov bennies--for which the dems excel. There won't be social security benefit for Americans of retirement age from the illegals/legals because they will suck up what ever they put into the economy--as they are now. They won't yield a net gain. ie they won't pay for anyone's social security.

Everyone but everyone who has ever been to any government building that dispenses anything from health care to drivers lisences can't help but notice that the place is swamped with foreigners. Basically the welfare state system set up in the 1960's is being totally gamed by foreigners.

What the president looks like he is about to do will demoralize the republicans bringing on the effects of the 1992 & 1996 elections. There may not even be a third party but when W builds in a reversal of the fortunes of the war of 1848--it creates a kind of passivity in people when they see their leaders commit them to the status of world historical losers.

If Bush decides to put up a wall and expel the illegals then there is a chance to preserve Republican majorities. It would be helpful to promise that the USA will kill the cost of water desalination and transport so as to make it economically possible to turn the deserts 1000 miles from any desert seacoast -- green. (this would increase the habitable size of the USA by a third and double the habitable size of Mexico.)This work is already ongoing and will be accomplished in five years or so--or in about the same time frame that GM promises to have a cost effective fuel cell car. For GM as it is for the GOP its do or die time.

The chief difference between the pubbies current predicament and flight 93 is that they are currently in the cockpit. (if you presume that bush is a republican or at least more of a republican than a bilderburger.)

The point here is that if these guys cannot act like loyal americans at least they can act like republicans. ie people who have a stake in the continuity of the republican party.

Since they are not doing this the republicans in the white house and senate all need to be smacked on both sides of the face and kicked in the but.

Agreed, it is quite possible that there will be no Republicans in the White House or in control of the Senate or House after 2008 if the Republicans keep being on the wrong side of the immigration issue.
I predict that if this keeps up, lots of seats will be lost soon in 2006 and many people who would vote Republican will instead stay home and say "To Hell With Them".

Not a good thing, but that is where it is going IMO.
Those Republicans I hope are at least getting great bribes over this.

The Republic that is the United States is in deep trouble if this bill passes. Giving up our sovereignty to a flood of illegal aliens violates the tenents of our Constitution. The balkanization of America is on the horizon and no one seems able to stop it, especially the weenies in DC.

Double legal immigration - but first seal the border.

And re-tilt the damned thing towards the First World.

It's HARDER to get into the United States from Canada, the UK, or Australia than it is from much of the Third World.

They don't want to stop it. It's the old divide and conquer routine. The elites think they will always be in charge. They want to be like the Mexican elites. The 1% of Europeans in charge of a largely third world country living in their gated communities with cheap servants at their beck and call.

Blacks will be relegated from a significant minority to an insignificant one. white americans who are not high born will become indentured servants and peasants as it was meant to be. Ain't America great?

Its not a reform bill. Its a national suicide bill. Cripes, why don't they just invite half the planet here. Every one who wants to come would come and so just open the floodgates, will ya? That's what our august Senators have in mind.

What are you people talking about? They've solved the illegal immigration problem with a brilliant stroke of the pen! They'll just declare it legal. This should satisfy all the people who are constantly saying "I'm not against immigration, I just don't like ILLEGAL immigration."

You are right. The party doesn't matter anymore. The country is being run by and for the social wealthy elite and their friends.

They and their rich business friends do not care which party is in power because it will not affect them because they are above the law.

The law and government is simply something they use to get what they want and to control their economic slaves.

This is why people like Bush no longer care what the majority of the people want or if it hurts the Republican party or not.

If something is important to the rich like cheap labor, these trade bills'or open borders they will get it regardless of which party is in power.

If it is something that will not affect them then they will let the parties fight it out so it will seem to the masses of sheep that they still have a voice in their government when in reality we don't.

They are not even trying to hide it anymore.

There never was an if to this amnesty bill . The rich and powerful want it and they are going to get if no matter what we say.

This should satisfy all the people who are constantly saying "I'm not against immigration, I just don't like ILLEGAL immigration."

I'm surprised you're the first to bring it up.  More than surprised, actually.

It will not satisfy those of us who oppose illegal immigration, because if this article is true, then the Republicans have taken a leap into the absurd.  Kafka would feel right at home.

Here's a simple paradigm penned by a writer of letters to the local newspaper:

If you walk into your bathroom, discover someone has allowed the tub to overflow and the floor is flooded, what do you do first? There's a mop and bucket handy, and the chain for the bathtub's plug is in easy reach.

The first thing you do is turn off the tap! Then you pull the plug to allow the tub to drain. The last thing you do is grab the mop and bucket and start mopping up the overflow.

Now apply this to illegal immigration. The first thing this country needs to do — in fact, we must do or anything else we do will have no real effect — is turn off the tap. Until the borders are effectively sealed against illegal immigrants, regardless of where they're coming from, any other measures will have no effect.

Right now we're mopping the floor while the tap is running.

According to this article, what the Republicans want to do is toss a sopping wet sponge onto the flooded floor, call it border enforcement, and then open up two more free flowing taps, one labeled for legal immigration and the other the road to citizenship!  The proposal is so at odds with what people want and so contrary to a rational notion of managing immigration that it simply makes every Republican associated with idea look crazy . . . or more to the point, Kafkaesque.

Legal immigration needs to be quadrupled at the least, not doubled. We need the people, we just need to screen them and give them legal status before they get here, not after they kill or spread incurable tb to hundreds after illegally entering.

The illegals here now have to go, they will easily be replaced by those good people waiting in line...

"If there is anyone left in the world, we would accept another 325,000 through the guest-worker program in the first year," said NumbersUSA's Rosemary Jenks, who supports stricter immigration laws.

Here is what I proprose then. Since we have an estimated 11 million illegals here now, most of whom (I'll say 8 million) are from Mexico/Central America/South America (M/CA/SA) and we assume the rest are from other parts of the world, we need to balance that out? Right? That leaves a differential of 8 million.

So. First, we secure our southern border and northern border. Then, taking up to 3 million legal immigrants, who meet our qualifications, per year from these other ethnic regions around the world. (Note: we are not taking 3 million each, but a total of three million each year till they reach that 8 million goal per ethinc region):

1. The European Union/Great Britain

2. Eastern Europe

3. Russia/The Balkan States

4. China

5. Western Asia

6. Southern Asia

7. The Middle East

8. The African Tribal Nations

9. South Africa

10. New Zealand/Australia/South Pacific

11. The Eskimo/Aleut/Northern Peoples

12. The Carribean

That's the best I can come up with. Any more?

In the meantime (you knew there was one of those, didn't you?) we put a moratorium on immigration from the M/CA/SA region until that quota of 8 million from each of those other regions is met bringing in a limit of 3 million per year regardless of the makeup.

That means we have to bring in 96 million from those other 12 regions. Dividing that by 3 million means that the moratorium on the M/CA/SA region would last 32 years.

The immigration reform bill that the Senate takes up today would more than double the flow of legal immigration into the United States each year and dramatically lower the skill level of those immigrants.

Since I'm a legal immigrant in the process of obtaining a green card via employment sponsorship, I have direct experience dealing with the immigraiton situation. There are several 'levels' of employment based permanent immigration and a set number of visas are available every year in those classes. The highest levels are the EB-1 and EB-2. I'm going through the EB-2 route. That's for advanced degree holders (PhDs, Masters, MD's, etc). The yearly quota for this category is rarely filled. The quotas for skilled and unskilled labor fill very quickly.

Based on that, I think the proposed immigration bill to increase unskilled labor is simply a response to that visa category reaching its yearly cap very quickly. The reson skilled worker quotas isn't being increase is because that quota is seldom met - i.e. no need to increase an unfilled quota.

Now whether the unskilled qupote SHOULD be increase is a different question. I'm just citing the current legal immigration situation.
