Bush should cut his (our) losses [Barfer]
HEARST NEWSPAPERS ^ | April 30, 2006 | HELEN THOMAS

WASHINGTON -- President Bush has two and a half years in the White House to rescue his legacy from the quagmire of the Iraq war and a dismal record in domestic affairs.

Bush is doing what his predecessors have done in similar predicaments: He's trying to pull himself out of the hole by tapping new advisers, such as his announcement Wednesday that Fox News commentator Tony Snow will be the new White House press secretary.

Such moves have sometimes helped troubled administrations but they are not usually transforming in a dramatic way.

A clear sign of alarm in Republican ranks is the appointment of former Secretary of State James A. Baker and a host of other elder statesmen to come up with new ideas on Iraq. Baker is co-chairman of the newly congressionally formed Iraq Study Group along with former Rep. Lee Hamilton, D-Ind.

This development indicates that Bush's father -- former President George H.W. Bush -- may have urged Baker, his close friend, to help bail out the president.

After the Iran-Contra scandal threatened the last two years of President Reagan's presidency, a new set of top aides was brought in and helped him survive in office.

Bush is being battered in public opinion polls -- his approval rating is in the low 30s -- and he's being pummeled by Republican cohorts in Congress who fear they may be victims of voter discontent in the November mid-term elections. This has the White House nervous, too, because a Democratic majority in the House or Senate could revive the system of checks and balances that fell into disrepair after Republicans won control of Congress and the presidency.

I have a plan to revive the Presidents sagging ratings, tell the Dims to take a flying leap through a rolling donut, and lead with a conservative agenda. IOW quit messing around with those that hate you, and try to please those that are willing to love you.

I think that knowing what they are saying is important even if distasteful.

Hey Helen, your and the MSM's attempt to bring down a great president and hand Iraq over to the jihadists is what's stuck in a quagmire. And I'd hate to see what your approval ratings are (well actually I wouldn't). Isn't it time you pulled out and let someone who isn't a walking advertisement for burqas do the job.

Long after Helen's bones are dust, the Bush legacy in Iraq will continue to be written.

Her verdict is a bit premature.

Sounds like Crazy Helen wants President Bush to take the heat off her Arab brothers and sisters so they can get back to killing Americans.

I just dropped her a note saying we couldn't let her little 'Democrat darlings' ever be in the WH or have control again because they're all crooks and traitors to the country and we could never let anything like this happen again:

Didn't think it would harm letting the old hag know some people don't have short memories like her.

Most probably true, but I bet she keeps copies handy in her bag for the purpose of cadging free drinks and gulling impressionable male whores.

You know what would be really cool? If Tony Snow dismissed Helen Thomas from the room and replaced her with Jeff Gannon.

How long has this disgusting bag of Lebanese waste material been suffering from dementia anyhow?
