A Brooklyn rapper was shot when gunfire erupted outside the studios of the troubled Hot 97 radio station in the West Village and then went inside to sit for an interview.

Police say 28-year-old Jamal Wollard, who goes by the rap name Gravy, was hit by one bullet as he arrived at the station on Hudson Street just after 9:30 p.m. Wollard arrived with a large entourage of about 30 cheering people wearing T-shirts with his name on it. But then the gunfire erupted, and the people began screaming and running for their lives.

Eyewitness News has learned at least six shots were fired, and Wollard was hit once in the buttocks. He then calmly walked upstairs to do the interview despite his wound.

Authorities searched the area for potential victims, but none were found.

Wollard limped inside to the studio. When the staff asked him what happened, and he said he had fallen.

But officers responding to the shots fired outside the building noticed the blood and called an ambulance. Wollard was taken to St. Vincents Hospital in stable condition.

WABC's webpage on this story wrongly gives the date as February 15, but this is current.

I guess that was just a little too "gangsta" for them.

I cant believe one of his adoring fans didnt take that bulet for him. Shot in the ass --shameful. My guess is he was picking them up and putting them down on his way out of range too. I guess we will all have to wait for the new rap song to hear his version what happened.I know I will be waiting with baited breath.

Whenever I see a story like this I'm reminded of the immortal words of radio host Don Imus . . .

"You might be a redneck if you think Tupac Shakur is a Jewish holiday."

Some of the Sirius stations are pretty good such as Classic Rewind (Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, Tom Petty, etc.); Left of Center (Arctic Monkeys, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Dredg, etc.), Outlaw Country (Neko Case, Junior Brown, Hank Williams III, etc.) and Buzzsaw (AC/DC, Metallica, George Thorogood, etc.).

I'm not very hip to the rap crap.

Even though I probably despise his singing, I have to give him credit in the "Iron Man" category.

How many freepers could take one in the buns and then still do a radio interview?

Returning enemy fire is something a guy has to do, but a radio interview?

Boy times have changed! I don't recall Beatles fans shooting at members of The Dave Clark Five.

I remember a great line from that episode, something like "Getting shot will be good for your career, you have always had a street cred problem, having a job for all those years"

Which cut to a great reaction shot from Tony.

yes, a few weeks ago, while tony was in the hospital, bobby bacala (sp) suggested it to a rapper, and the rapper agreed.
