One tradition likely to go on is the reading of the Purim megilla led by Chabad Rabbi Levi Shemtov, which attracts many of the Jewish staffers.

Ironically--in Jewish law it is forbidden to count Jews. The census in biblical times was counted by giving a half-shekel when necessary.

King David was severly punished for counting Jews after he had full control of the Land of Israel. 70000 Jews died in a plague.

Now why would they flee? They were Catholics, weren't they.

Because Hitler didn't care if Jews converted to Catholicism. They were Jews and deserved to die as far as he was concerned. He wasn't a Christian and didn't care one way or the other.

Here's an example of a Jewish convert to Catholicism who died because she was Jewish: Edith Stein, a.k.a. Sister Teresa Benedicta.

The Nazis killed Catholics who had Jewish ancestry (whether or not the individuals in question would be counted as Jewish under Jewish law, quite apart from belonging to another religion). Edith Stein is a case in point. Barry Goldwater and Caspar Weinberger weren't Jewish by religion or Jewish under Jewish law (since their mothers weren't Jewish), but the Nazis would have been quite happy to have sent them to the gas chambers too.

I do have a degree in European History with an emphasis on Reformation and 19th/20th Germany.

Just a side note, because Jews converted did not mean they converted. It is believed Christopher Columbus may either have been Carthaginian or Jewish.

Many of the Spanish soldier's and settlers who came immediately to the New World had been Jews who were converted by King Carlos and Isabella. They left because the King and Queen did not trust their conversion and so wish to escape the inquisition.

Thus, most the Spaniards in the Southwest US (ie Texas) are of Jewish descent.

But, we're forgetting the point. I have never believed the ridiculous story about Mady forgetting her ancestry.

You haven't responded to our point. Do you believe Hitler gave Jews who converted to Christianity some kind of dispensation? Considering he killed alot of people who weren't Jewish by Halacha, I don't see any evidence of that.
