I'm going to put my tin foil hat on, so I can think like a conspiracy theorist.
Lets say ICE was going to do this raid 2 months ago or even 2 months into the future and Chertoff said no, you have to do it while Congress is in recess. What exactly is the effect of this raid going to have on Congress?
Do you think this will get more votes for a guest worker program?
If so, how?

I just have to say this out loud so I can be sure I actually read it right. Enforcing our own laws is immoral? Wow.

If we could go after the businesses AND the illegals, maybe they won't come here even faster!

Yup. You and I need reading glasses, since I'm also reading the same line.

This is what happened to the ilelgals:
1. The Mexican illegals that refused to testify in court against the executives were removed to Mexico, and yes, some went back to Mexico, contrary to what the MSM is reporting.
2. The Mexican illegals that agreed to testify in court (they were most likely promised resident alien cards) were paroled into the US and allowed to legally work until the court date.
3. The non-Mexican illegals that refused to testify in court against the executives were removed either detained for removal or, if detention was not possible, paroled into the US until their deportation hearing. This is called due process. Yes, they may not show up for that hearing, but next time they get caught it's a felony and they sit in jail until a deportation hearing.
4. The non-Mexican illegals that agreed to testify in court (they were most likely promised resident alien cards) were paroled into the US and allowed to legally work until the court date.

Why are Mexican and non-Mexican illegals treated differently?
And, I suppose they are going to give amnesty to those who will testify. Sheesh.

Do you work for CBP or ICE? I do. Have you spoken with any agents involved in the investigation and raids?
I have.
Are you saying they didn't just catch and release these criminal invaders?

You know, it's a terrible waste of breath to continue a discussion with someone who is intentionally missing the point of what I am saying, or is so politically naive as to not understand. Last try. The effect on Congress (specifically the Senate where the bill is up for a vote), is to show how "tough" Bush is starting to get on the illegal alien problem, even though this raid is all show and no go. The recess is almost over, which you choose to intentionally ignore, and Congress is about to reconvene to once again bring up the immigration bill. The timing of this raid is to influence the vote in the Senate that Bush is really going to crack down on illegal immigration, and it is all a sham. Now, if you are incapable of figuring this out, or, as I see it, don't want to figure this out, then no one can help your politically ignorant self. The rest of the intelligent people on this thread HAVE figured it out. You stand pretty much alone in thinking these raids were not a political move. So be it.

What scares me the most is a mass of uneducated socialists--voting. If you could promise me a sealed border, a reformed temporary visa program, and illegals never getting a 'right to vote'...then I would feel a little at ease.
That and actually following the laws we already have.

You stand pretty much alone in thinking these raids were not a political move. They were, even if planned in advance with the timing strictly a coincidence, which is doubtful its purpose is to do one thing: convince everyone they're getting tough when in actuality their heart isn't into in the least.
To: brytlea
We can't deport non-Mexicans to Mexico, so they must be flown out of the country. Takes time.
And yes, if they testify, they will most likely get some sort of amnesty.

Numerous raids have left Chicago families without their loved ones, and this morning the government is talking about its new policy. No illegal-sympathizing media bias here...

"They are not criminals. All they're here for is to work for their family," said Mariz Gomez. However, they crossed the border illegally, Mariz. If they had entered the country LEGALLY, you wouldn't have anything to complain about.
