Government "it's for your own good" paternalism is not innocuous, and not necessarily any more benign than the "do it or else" kind, says Edward L. Glaeser in a recent article, "Paternalism and Psychology," in the University of Chicago Law Review.

Mark. It's good to "see" Linda Seeback again. I haven't "seen" her in years. Wonderful lady.

Paternalism also constructs a certain kind of personality --- cold, unfeeling, alienated, affectless, indifferent.
I could also add narcissistc.
I have seen it very clearly in a population I worked with for some years, that was almost entirely dependent on government from cradle to grave.

The smoking ban is a excellent example of government intrusion into personal freedom and property rights for the furtherment of government control under the guise of doing "what is good for us". The use of flawed statistics and incomplete science cited as "proof" of their good intentions is also common. For good measure they use greedy lawyers and frivolous lawsuits, based again on emotion, propaganda, and flawed science as additional enforcers.
Extend that to the asbestos scare, DDT, eminent domain, global warming, etc., and there is ample evidence of a concerted effort to increase government control through the use of the techniques described here.
The left has used it since the beginning of Communism. During the Korean War it was given the name "brain washing". It has only increased and with the same goals in mind.
The more time that passes the more the wisdom of our founders is validated.
