Wal-Mart is very good at providing large quantities of "stuff" to fairly homogenuous populations. The diversity in NYC would drive them nuts. Can you imagine the buyers trying to discern the difference in tastes between D.R., P.R. Haitian and Jamaican?

There are plenty of retail jobs in New York. What does keeping out a few stores do?

Do you work for a certain company headquartered in Bentonville?

Face it! You don't want people to have jobs. You don't want wal-mart in NYC! You'd rather have people starving in the streets, wearing rags and eating the hard little nubbins of Nathan's hotdogs they find in the trash. Entire families homeless, destitute, pigeons pecking out their eyes!

ALL THAT STANDS BETWEEN NEW YORK CITY'S UTTER AND TOTAL DECLINE INTO POVERTY IS WAL-MART!!!!

The issue is that Wal Mart is a blight on the landscape and does not fit into the "culture" of NYC.

There are plenty of other places to put a store. Good luck to them.

...wall street brokers running into the street, tears streaming down their faces. The head of Goldman Sachs, rending his J. Press suit, rolling on the floor of his office, screaming hysterically "If only there was a wal-mart in Queens! If only! If only! Then we'd all be saved! Why? Why? Why?"

Well, if you feel that strongly about it, as I do, about the "illegal issue", take some of that anger and Make your presence known! It's not Wal Mart that you should be aggro with, it's the Unions who desperately try to keep them out!
If we in Masshole land didn't allow a Wal Mart down the Cape, we would have Far more displaced N.O. losers than we do now! Think of the future, it is what it is!
We have to make the best of it.
Employing people is a GOOD thing!
We've already seen the opposite!
We are not so far apart FReeper!

NYC is all about employing people. It's all about commerce. That's true for the African immigrant selling Chinatown watches off a table on broadway as it is for the hedge fund guy on Wall Street.

Hey, Gabz! They're trying to build a Taget SuperCenter in Madistan. There's ONE guy protesting it, running around with charts and graphs to show anyone that will listen, LOL!

I'm anxious to see if the venom rises to the surface against Target in this town. Amazingly, Madistan NEVER has a problem with letting Wal-Mart & Sam's Club build here (there have got to be ten Wal-Marts in the area, three in Madistan alone) and taking their tax revenues.

But, we all know the City Council is made up of hypocrites. These are the same wh*res that have stomped out public smoking and all of that tax revenue "for the children." *Rolleyes*

" Trivia: EJ Korvettes was short for "Eight Jewish Korean War Veterans."

I never knew that....I used to buy records there in the 70's. My mother pretty much hated shopping anywhere but Manhattan or Roosevelt fields, but I'd always hitch a ride with friends parents to Korvettes. They also had the trendy junky clothing accessories that were in. Walmart would have been a perfect fit for the neighborhood I grew up in...in Hollis, Queens. From what I understand the neighborhood hasn't changed much economically, just culturally.

I'll be darned,I didn't know that's how they got their name.

I bought a lamp at Korvettes many years ago while visiting my Garden City friends.
