Stunning facts about the proposed immigration bill

SENATOR SESSIONS ON SECURING AMERICA'S BORDERS ACT

Mr. President, I thank Senator Leahy, ranking member on the Judiciary Committee.

I have received just this afternoon in my office some disturbing news in the form of correspondence from the Congressional Budget Office. It suggests a number of areas where the amendment we are talking about here today, No. 3424, the immigration so-called compromise, violates our budget and the rules of the Senate.

Let me read from the correspondence we have received. This is something, as you know, Mr. President, as a member of the Judiciary Committee, that we never discussed at all. It is not a matter we spent any time at all discussing as we moved forward with legislation which ultimately cleared that committee and came to the floor — legislation which I thought was not good legislation and which I opposed, and so did the Senator from Texas, who just relinquished the Chair. We didn't discuss the financial impact of the legislation before us.

Stand Up For America !

"We have room for but one flag, the American flag...
We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...
And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

# 1 United States held hostage -Immigration laws don't exist solely to protect us from terrorism. There are 11 million "illegals" living, working and having children in the U.S. If they aren't deported and required to go through the immigration process legally, what message does that send to the estimated 56 percent of Mexico's population (according to President Vicente Fox) who also want to come to America? How do we put out the welcome mat to those who have already broken our laws then deny the remaining millions who will be on their way here in the coming years? We can't.

# 2 L.A. mayor picks NFL talks over immigrant boycott-LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Antonio Villaraigosa, Los Angeles' first Latino mayor in the modern era, will skip huge pro-immigration rallies planned for Monday to meet with pro football officials in Dallas, leaving organizers feeling like "a ship without a captain." Oscar Sanchez, an organizer of the Great American Boycott in Los Angeles, said the mayor's office previously told the group he would speak at a downtown Los Angeles rally on Monday -- then backed out.

# 3 Workplaces ready for day without immigrant staff - NEW YORK (Reuters) - From mighty meatpacking plants to tiny taco stands, U.S. businesses are making plans to deal with Monday's nationwide pro-immigration boycott, which could keep millions of people away from their jobs. Contingency plans range from juggling schedules to hiring temporary workers to closing down altogether, companies say.Dozens of companies have sought advice from the Atlanta-based law firm of Jackson Lewis, which specializes in labor issues, said one of its partners, Jonathan Spitz."There's been an awful lot of cooperation by companies and by employees," Spitz said. "No one who has called is looking to fire employees when there are better solutions."
In Arizona, which shares a border with Mexico and has a large immigrant population, construction companies may not know until the last minute who will show up on Monday, according to David Jones, president of the Arizona Contractors Association. He said he expects employers to tolerate absences. "I think employers realize that without a functional guest worker program that we have serious problems," he said. Estimates show Arizona will face a shortage of some 40,000 skilled laborers in construction by 2014, he said. Mark Klein, spokesman for Cargill

40 percent of all workers are working for cash and not paying taxes. Why would they want to be legal and pay taxes? They would be able to start bringing the rest of their families to the USA.

75 percent of people on L.A.'s most-wanted list are illegal aliens.

Over two-thirds of all births are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal whose births were paid for by the taxpayers.

Nearly 25 percent of all inmates in California detention centers are here illegally.

Over 300,000 illegals are living in garages.

The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegals from south of the border.

Nearly 60 percent of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal.

Of the 10 million people in Los Angeles County, 5.1 million speak English and 3.9 million speak Spanish.

21 radio stations in Los Angeles are Spanish speaking.

Sinko de Mayo

Santa Barbara - Immigration Protests Gain A.S. Support- After roughly 40 student protesters marched earlier in the day to support immigration rights, the Associated Students Legislative Council passed a resolution last night allowing A.S. staff to miss work on Monday, May 1, in support of the “Great American Boycott.”

-Preparing For Immigration Protests-"If students need to protest, they should feel free to do so after school. We want students to exercise free speech, but not at the expense of their education." Jack O'Connell, California State Superintendent for Public Instruction.

Restaurants will close on day of immigration protests-A couple of San Luis Obispo County restaurants will close Monday because of a protest against proposed federal anti- immigration legislation. Marco Rizzo, who co-owns Café Roma with his family, said he decided to close when several of the restaurant's 27 employees expressed interest in participating in the national day of protest. "I don't want to be short of staff, I don't want the service to suffer, and I wanted to express our support of what they were doing," Rizzo said. "I guess all over the world it's Labor Day, so we're considering it our holiday as well."

The coming May Day immigration protests- I'm sitting here wondering how the upcoming protests scheduled for May 1st and purportedly seeking to demonstrate the power (and contribution) of illegal aliens is going to play. I have to guess that if the previous protests are any indication, they'll not play very well among Americans at large.

Many Iowans To Take Monday Off For Immigration Protests -Parents Set To Take Children Out Of Classes

Colorado - Businesses prepare for protest absences- Reyna Anaya, 21, is taking the day off Monday from her job to protest efforts to close the border. As a Colorado State University junior who has experienced discrimination in Fort Collins, she will protest congressional anti-immigration proposals alongside thousands in Denver and across the nation.

Immigration protesters expected in Atlanta - (UPI) -- Police are preparing for up to 100,000 protesters in Atlanta Monday as part of a nationwide response to proposed government crackdowns on illegal immigrants.

This sis bit more of that last post....could be it's own thread:

From the researchers at the Los Angeles Times:

40 percent of all workers in L.A. County are working for cash and not paying taxes.

95 percent of all arrest warrants issued for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.

Less than 2 percent of illegals are picking crops but 29 percent are on welfare.

Over 70 percent of the U.S. annual population growth (over 90 percent of California, Florida and New York) are from immigration.

29 percent of inmates in the federal prisons are illegal aliens.

The lifetime fiscal impact (taxes minus services used) for the average adult Mexican immigrant is a negative.

They also send about $15 billion back to Mexico annually.

It cost Los Angeles $276 million in welfare costs for 100,000 children of illegal aliens.

MILFORD -- State Rep. Marie Parente, D-Milford, said she’s tired of saying no to American citizens while the state caters to its undocumented residents. So Parente filed three illegal immigration-related amendments this week to the state budget proposal, which the House is currently debating, to block illegal immigrants from tapping into state programs.

Battle begins over services for illegals - DENVER - The campaign for a ballot measure that would bar illegal immigrants from receiving most government services kicked off Thursday, with supporters arguing it would help protect American workers. One of the organizers, Waldo Benavidez, denounced politicians for failing to enforce immigration laws and for making statements that people here illegally do jobs Americans will not do. “Enough is enough,” Benavidez told a crowd on the steps of the state Capitol. “I’m tired of people protesting in our streets demanding rights they are not entitled to. This initiative is the first volley of Colorado citizens fighting back.”

Groups rally in Minneapolis for tighter immigration controls- MINNEAPOLIS - About 75 people who fought the rain and cold to attend a rally at the federal courthouse Saturday heard calls for tighter immigration controls and demands that more immigrants adopt English.A small Minnesota organization calling itself Minnesotans Seeking Immigration Reform headlined the rally but was joined by the Minuteman Project, a national volunteer group that patrols the border to keep out illegal immigrants.

Opposing Immigration Groups To Rally Day Early- FORT COLLINS, Colo. A day ahead of most of the rest of the nation this university town will see dueling rallies over immigration policy. And it will be at the same time and same place: Old Town.Their plans are peaceful, say both groups, Fuerza Latina and Northern Coloradans for Immigration Reduction.

Politicians

Already the mud is flying- Is Sen. George Allen a racist? If you mention the senator outside Washington and Virginia, most people don't even know who he is. Yet the spin machine trying to cast Allen as a racist - as prequel to his presidential candidacy - already is operating at full throttle. Thus, even before millions of Americans are able to match Allen's name with his face, they'll likely be able to link his name to the label - racist. The fact that the mudslinging has begun so early - while Allen is busy running for re-election to the Senate - confirms how seriously opponents take his presidential candidacy. Allen, indeed, is a favorite among Republican Party players. He's also the one Democrats worry about most, according to an insider who told me: "The one Hillary's worried about is George Allen."

Show this man some support!

Sen. George Allen

State aims 7 bills at illegals- Missouri calls for wide restrictions- JEFFERSON CITY — As debate rages in Washington over immigration reform, Missouri lawmakers suddenly have found themselves caught up in the fray. The topic of undocumented immigration has become so prominent in Jefferson City that House Speaker Rod Jetton has appointed a committee of legislators to study how it affects employment, law enforcement and government programs.

Immigration debate quiet in key Republican's base - MILWAUKEE (Reuters) - U.S. Rep. James Sensenbrenner's immigration-control proposals have helped ignite protests across the nation but created little controversy in his solidly Republican Wisconsin district. One newspaper in his district says it has yet to receive a single piece of reader mail concerning the 14-term Republican U.S. House of Representatives member's proposals to criminalize undocumented illegal aliens and build a tall fence along the U.S.-Mexico border."All I hear from my constituents is to keep at it," Sensenbrenner told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel recently.

16 illegal immigrants arrested, then let go- SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Sixteen Mexicans arrested for illegally entering the country were let free this week because there was no room at the jail, authorities said Friday. Instead of detaining the 12 men and four women, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents dropped them off at a bus terminal here and sent them on their way.

OHIO - Officers arrest 10 people being held as 'illegal aliens' -HAMILTON - At least 10 people who officials termed "illegal aliens" were arrested Thursday during a joint operation involving agents from the Butler County Sheriff's office and the U.S. Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
