FBI Director Robert Mueller said this week that his agency busted a smuggling ring organized by the terrorist group Hezbollah that had operatives cross the Mexican border to carry out possible terrorist attacks inside the U.S.
"This was an occasion in which Hezbollah operatives were assisting others with some association with Hezbollah in coming to the United States,” Mueller told a House Appropriations subcommittee during a Tuesday hearing on the FBI's budget.
In a stunning revelation, Mueller admitted that Hezbollah had succeeded in smuggling some of its operatives across the border, telling the House committee:
"That was an organization that we dismantled and identified those persons who had been smuggled in. And they have been addressed as well.”
Hezbollah was responsible for the single most deadly terrorist attack against the U.S. before 9/11 - the Oct. 1983 bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut, which killed 243 U.S. troops.
In November, an al-Qaida operative who was on the FBI's terrorist watch list was captured near the Mexican border, housed in a Texas jail and turned over to federal agents, according to Rep. John Culberson, R-Texas.
"A confirmed al-Qaida terrorist, an Iraqi national, was held in the Brewster County jail," Rep. Culberson told ABC Radio host Sean Hannity. "He was captured in Mexico. This was within the last six weeks. He was turned over to the FBI."
Of course, how many others have just walked on in? We'll find out when they start self-detonating in shopping malls or in busses.

This is why the "War or Terror" is meaningless. We're more than happy to send our troops half way around the world, and then leave our back door open for terrorists to walk through. We are forced into airport searches and lost liberties, but the border is WIDE open. What a country.

Your points are well taken. To date, I've been unable to find anyone who understands the need to fight a WOT, spending billions and having soldiers die, when leaving the border undefended.
Of course I've not spoken with One Worlder Bush about this.

I'm with you. Our nation is being administered by emasculated, feminized and socialized men with no knowledge of history, little patriotism and no value system except what's in it for number one. (I except Congressmen Tancredo and Kurt Weldon from that evaluation)

He heads an Arab welfare agency that gets millions in our tax dollars, yet was raided by the FBI for engaging in Medicaid fraud. The organization also spent thousands in our tax dollars on "job training" (commercial driving lessons and attempts at HazMat hauling certificates) for two men indicted as members of the Detroit al-Qaeda terror cell. He has represented a number of Islamic terrorists, including Ibrahim Parlak and "former" PFLP terrorist Imad Hamad.

ACCESS may be the most frightening funder of the conference because its chief, Ismael Ahmed, is running for University of Michigan regent in the November elections. And because American tax dollars fund his organization American tax dollars which he then used to pay for this hateful conference.
According to its latest annual report, in 2001, ACCESS got at least 73.6% of its $10.2 million annual revenue from taxpayers. ACCESS, North America's largest Arab welfare agency, funded commercial driving lessons and attempts to get hazardous-materials hauling certificates for Ahmed Hannan and Karim Koubriti, members of Detroit's recently indicted al-Qaida cell. When confronted by the press, ACCESS chief and Michigan regent candidate Ahmed dismissed their al-Qaida membership as a mere "political credential."
After 9/11, ACCESS organized and publicized in The Detroit News a campaign against universities cooperating with federal agents trying to find foreign students linked to terrorism.
ACCESS, which thinks nothing of funding the anti-Semitic hate conference in Ann Arbor, was paid $1.3m. to provide "sensitivity training" to the Dearborn Police Department, Wayne County Sheriff's Department, and Dearborn and Detroit Public Schools. Ahmed also opposed the Clinton Counter-terrorism Act of 1996 because it prohibited donations to terrorist groups, including Hizbullah and Hamas.
Everyone should be concerned not just with the hate and support for terrorism that went on at the University of Michigan Divestment Conference, but with who is funding it not only those closely associated with al-Qaida and Hamas, but unwitting American taxpayers themselves. Hopefully they will keep that in mind, as they go to the polls to hold accountable legislators who freely gave American tax money to ACCESS, and an irresponsible U-M Regent candidate, Ahmed the man who misused their money to foment hate and support terrorism.
