Durbin also referenced the DREAM ACT...which is Hatch's baby..

It gives illegals the ability to get instate tuition...where LEGAL CITIZENS...from other states cannot.

If we thought the ILLEGALS were flooding over the border before what we'll see now is a tidal wave of tsunami force.

It's been at the flood stage since Reagan's Amnesty Bill in '87. Since then, it's been a raging flood, especially in the last 10-15 years.

Tsunami doesn't even begin to describe it.

No matter what bill gets "passed" there is no guarantee that they'll go home. They can't even manage who's here overstaying their Visa's now.

This is like watching a huge disaster in motion.

Frist had said that unless the bill coming out of the Judiciary Committee had the support of a "majority" of the Republican members....he would STILL put up HIS bill in the Senate.

That's an interesting twist on things. LOL We'll see tomorrow which approach prevails. I predict that Specter's bill will be the one to come to the floor.

Frist says the priority to so do something to secure the borders FIRST..and wants to proceed with HIS bill.

Specter will point out (correctly) that the Committee Bill does just that.

What do you think about HATCH not only no being there...but PASSING on everything?

Didn't give it much thought. I don't see him as an influential player in this. I also don't see guest worker as a close issue in the Senate. I expect a guest worker program will pass on a filibuster proof majority, given all the DEMs support it, most (if not all) of the so-called RINOs support it, and even some fairly conservative Republicans support it. Plus President Bush says he won't settle for a bill that doesn't have it.

Frist may be trying to set himself up as an independent leader, independent from President Bush that is. It's a facade, I think, in that Senator Frist is (I think) also willing to pass a guest worker program.

What I heard was that the bill gavce states the right to do that, but didn't mandate them to do so. In other words, it removes the excuse of "they're illegal" from all state educational institutions, for imposing out-of-state tuition.

Probably a court case (state by state) would find that residency is enough to justify in-state tuition. Keep in mind, the plan is to relabel all these aliens "legal," so there will be no such thing as an illegal alien, save for the outright criminal/terrorist class.

I heard today on one of the talk shows that all these demonstrations by "illegals" were organized by a leftist communist party that wants to take back the southwest for the Mexicans. This could get really ugly when these demonstrations are NOT so peaceful.

Well, at least folks will no longer hold Brownback up as a conservative ideal. :-)

The fact he is "socially conservative" tends to make people think otherwise. I tend to doubt him on even that given who his biggest boosters are in Kansas....it would be suicidal to be anything but be a social conservative and continue to get their support. But he goes to extremes in that arena from time to time, like blocking a nominee of the administration to a position because they are pro-choice. Even if the position doesn't concern in any way, shape or form abortion or even the debate of abortion.

Sessions is a conservative. A rare one in the Senate. Kyl is a good guy, Coburn I've been developing a fair amount of respect for....during his campaign he sounded a bit too much like Alan Keyes but he's been redeeming himself since.

Brownback is no different then Lindsey Graham.

He was on the floor of the Senate talking about the bill they discussed in Committee...

He was talking a lot about the dream of becoming an American..and the hardships it would bring the families..if they had to leave the life they have made here...to have to go back to their own countries to just have to start over again here...blah, blah.

I am sorry... a lot of people love Brownback...but the way he was today...did NOT make me a fan.

we have the Federal Government to thank for all the Housing loans, and other benefits for the illegals.

Between big business that hires them and the govt that gives them tuition, housing loans, etc we don't stand a chance.

Bush said,
"we don't want to pit neighbors against neighbors"...

THEY AREN'T MY F...G NEIGHBORS, BUSH! they are criminals living next door to me!

I am ready to start with Closing the border and then tackling the rest of the problem. We can't send 12 million back and Mexico wont take them. No making laws to criminalize illegals will be worth the paper its written on if we don't close the da@n borders!

I already know what it's like. I live in So. Mexifornia.

I have a feeling the Minutemen are going to be flooded with volunteers wanting to join them, also watch the gun sales rise after today.

LOL....on Brit Hume's show...during the roundtable...

both Mort and Fred said that the protestors "broke the rules in Saturday's protests"...because "they were told to ONLY bring American flags, because the American public would not be sympathetic to them waving other country's flags"...

They said that the organizers DID warn them about the Mexican flags...

See what good, law abiding citizens they would be?? They won't even obey orders that HELP their cause!!! LOL

Since these demonstrations were organized by commie leftist organizations....its going to get ugly when they run headlong into the Minutemen.

Maybe that's what the Feds want....the illegals to get violent and then BAM...here comes the military. Well, that's one way to solve the problem. Ugly, but one way.

I love Sessions...he is my favorite..but Coburn is a good guy as well.

Kyl and Cornyn are good too...but, they are trying to get their amendment passed...so they are probably compromising more than I like.

Graham is a loser, DeWine is a loser, and now I will add Brownback..

Cornyn was thinking about working with Kennedy and sort of backed out. Kyl won me over while I was watching him during the vote. He looked pissed.
