Shiploads of Jews seeking refuge in the U.S. from the holocaust were sent back to Europe and their fate.

"If you are talking about THE SAME TIME FRAME above, do I smell a violation of the law prohibiting military operations inside the US?

*chuckle*

What on earth brought you to the city where my Dad spent a part of his childhood? (Bratislava, not Memphis"

Well, I dunno why military intelligence was there.
I had to show them how to operate their Collins KWM2 to communicate with their base in Georgia.
I spent a lot of time in their RV, drinking beer and telling jokes.

As for Bratislava, I like it here and am much more comfortable then in Memphis, and the girls are the most beautiful in the world. I see more in 10 minuets then I see in 10 months back in Memphis.

I didn't suggest that 'inhibitions' were limited to the continent, to the UK, or to the RC Church.
The same Marxist/Non-marxist clash existed here between the wars and the socialist argument was (even then) heavily supported by academia, writers and similar elites.
Those elites were also believed to include a disproportionate Jewish population.

I read the Nancy Reagan book and, contrary to most, I found it inspirational. I did not believe the stuff about her having an intimate relationship with Sinatra; however, as I remember it, the encounter in the book involved lunch at the White House while his songs were playing and he gave her a spin around the room. That I can believe, much like Diana getting a quick dance with Travolta. I did not believe the part about Reagan smoking dope with some young college girl and then having sex with her.

I did believe that Nancy Reagan's upbringing was rough, at best, and that she brought herself up by her bootstraps. That's the inspirational part, not embarrassing as Nancy herself felt but inspirational to others. She did have to get married to Reagan as she was pregnant with Patty at the time, which could also inspire others in the same situation that a shotgun marriage can be very, very successful.

From Amazon:

Mrs Simpson: Secret Lives of the Duchess of Windsor
Charles Higham

Synopsis
An explosive biography, substantially updated with fascinating new material about the Duke and Duchess of Windsor The romance of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor has been called the greatest love story of the twentieth century. However with the first edition of this biography in 1988, highly acclaimed author Charles Higham used explosive secret intelligence files to reveal a far darker side to their forty-year relationship. Now the author has re-visited and updated his international bestseller, resulting in a fascinating, and at times shocking expose of Wallis Simpson and our own royal family. New and disturbing revelations have come to light, adding to the now classic story of an illegitimate child from Baltimore who rose to become the mistress of the king of England and brought about his abdication. Although Wallis gained control of the Monarch through sexual techniques learned in China, she risked losing everything through a reckless, long-term affair with William Bullitt, US Ambassador to France. Fascinating revelations include newly released FBI files that demonstrate as no other source has done, the extent of the Duchess's espionage activities and how she conspired against Britain in the interest of Hitler. This is an intimate and extraordinary account of the woman who very nearly became the Queen of England.

And also to all the others:

Does anybody know records showing how long Prince Philip attended the Salem school originally founded by Kurt Hahn in southern Germany? Apparently he arrived there at age 12, in 1933, after Kurt Hahn had left (the school was continued because its owner, Prince Max of Baden did not give it up even after Hahn's departure). Philip's attendance at Gordonstoun school, also founded by Hahn, in 1934, I find attested from 1937 at least.

But did he get to attend Gordonstoun any earlier? I find contradictory or lacking statements in divers biographies of Prince Philip, but no quotable record.
