Slain Minister's Wife to Be Charged With Murder Friday, March 24, 2006 MEMPHIS, Tenn. The wife of a Tennessee pastor found shot dead in his house Wednesday will face first-degree murder charges, authorities announced Friday.
Mary Winklerwas found Thursday night with the couple's three daughters in Orange Beach, Ala., about 400 miles south of their home in Selmer.
Investigators with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said she was interviewed during the night and the charges were being prepared.
"We've interviewed her and she was cooperative," said Jennifer Johnson of the TBI, adding that once a warrant with the charges was drawn up, extradition proceedings would begin to have her returned to Tennessee.
Matthew Winkler was found shot to death in the bedroom of his parsonage Wednesday by church members who began searching for him after he failed to show up at an evening event at Selmer's Church of Christ.
Police said there were no signs of forced entry, but Winkler's wife and children Breanna, 1; Mary Alice, 6; and Patricia, 8 were gone.

A lot more men kill their wives than vice versa.... So the double standard is natural: when a wife does kill her husband, it's easy to assume that she was somehow driven to it.
None of us here are demanding that be the case, however -- your accusations toward us are misplaced.
Not replying to your question, just posting another tidbit - that it's Dan Winkler who is in AL to try to get temp custody of the girls and that they may not know their father is dead.

"We are very conservative in our beliefs, and take the Bible literally. We believe that we should follow the new Testament example of Christianity without adding to or deleting from the Word."
What a bunch of hooey. You make the Bible say whatever you want it to. See her picture that was posted? See that short haircut? How does that square with this verse?
1 Corinthians 11:14-16, "Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering. If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no other practicenor do the churches of God."
It doesn't. You guys are kidding yourselves.
I suspect the latter.
The churches of Christ I've attended have tended to be more mainstream, and letters of farewell tend to be from husband and wives rather than only the husband. My husband agreed with me on this, and his daddy was a CoC minister. Hubby said to me over lunch, "My mother wanted to kill my father on more than one occasion . . ." Money and criticism were my m-i-l's biggest complaints.
As for you writing a farewell note to your coworkers, that would be different. Does your husband go to work with you every Sunday and Wednesday?
It was probably a case of international intrigue involving multiple identities and state secrets.
I think you may be right...
I was raised in this affiliation and it is VERY conservative. Leads to people having double-lives. You can't admit you have problems or feelings that should be dealt with properly so you end up leading a double life. I have met people I work with that grew up in this affiliation and many were molested by their relatives who were elders, ministers, etc. Sad, but, this may be the case.
Well, it doesn't count if I called it at home, and not here. :D
"Orange Beach Police Chief Billy Wilkins said Friday that Mary Winkler had rented a condo on the beach but hadn't stayed there."
Sorry, I should know better.

Well I bet Rita is consulting her "sources" right now.
Everyone fights over that stuff, but most people don't shoot their loved ones in the back over it.
Dan, that was written to a church in a city full of idol worship and prostitution. Prostitutes wore their hair short. Paul was just saying not to go around looking like a prostitute.
If he were writing today, he'd probably say something about bare midriffs and short skirts.
Then he went on to write "If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no other practicenor do the churches of God." In other words, don't argue about it.
So quit trying to be contentious.
Look at the context and the era in which the words were written and relax. Bible means what it says, and its principles have applied for millenia. If you'll quit arguing and start listening to it, you'll learn to love its wisdom and the good it brings to your life.
Personally I think that the main difference with Baptists and the CofC is that with Church of Christ, baptism is mandatory, wheras with Baptists it isn't. Catholics also have mandatory "baptism", except its not really the same baptism that the 1st century converts practiced.
I smell a "post partum syndrome" defense. The youngest child was an infant.
Is Gloria Allred in Tennessee yet?
They don't believe in instrumental music either.
Thank God! I'm not sure if my m-i-l had ready access to a gun in those days. She really hated that life.
*huff* *puff* Golly!! *puff*
Don't you know she is? Sources know this stuff. I understand Greta is "on it," too. Perhaps we'll see the condomotel room itself!
For the post-partum people (say that 3x fast) - this is from a little earlier today (UTC time) by a blogger who knows both Matthew and Mary well, from church ...

Apparently they have named her as a suspect now. A friend of mine told me that she had been struggling with depression since Brianna's birth. I just can't believe this.
