Specter to Shepherd Bills Through Senate

A vocal Republican critic of the Bush administration's eavesdropping program will preside over Senate efforts to write the program into law, but he was pessimistic Wednesday that the White House wanted to listen.

''They want to do just as they please, for as long as they can get away with it,'' Senate Judiciary Chairman Arlen Specter, R-Pa., said in an interview with The Associated Press. ''I think what is going on now without congressional intervention or judicial intervention is just plain wrong.''

Specter was one of the first Republicans to publicly question the National Security Agency's authority to monitor international calls -- when one party is inside the United States -- without first getting court approval. Under the program first disclosed last year, the NSA has been conducting the surveillance when calls and e-mails are thought to involve al-Qaida.

Earlier this month, Senate Intelligence Chairman Pat Roberts, R-Kan., expressed interest in handling NSA legislation.

But Specter will stay in the spotlight.

If it is a legal program there is no need for Congress to do anything. This is an illigitimate attempt to intreject Congress into the President's Consitutional Powers and nothing else. More grandstanding and media whoredom from the Do Nothing Congress. Hey Spec how about you and the Insane Clown Posse balance the Fed Buget before doing anymore PR nonsense like this or steroids?

The MSM believes that Specter and Hagel are the only Congressional Republicans worth listening to.

I disagree.  What about the "maverick", John McCain??

Aint Gratitude Great? S/

The President of the United States of America took time off from his duties to go to Pennsylvnia and help to get this Sphincter POS elected and this is the way he thanks the President. This isnt the only case of Sphincter's ingratitude either.

What was Mr Bush thinking about when he helped place this load in the senate?

I have no idea, but the next Senate Majority Leader should primary this fool into oblivion. That's what The Hammer would do.

I wonder if he even remembers everything he and his WH did to help place this man back in the Senate?

Perhaps the new Senate can repair at least one of these mistakes in January.

IMHO McCrazy's maverick days are over for now. He knows he needs the President's supporters to get thru the primaries.

Hope he's not holding his breath for my vote.

Dear Senator Specter,

You've already had over half of your brain sucked out because it was cancerous.

Please admit that you are a dummocrat so the people of Pennsylvania will know what kind of mind-missing moron they are dealing with.

Or move to Kalifornia. You'll fit right in.

They'll try to pass all kinds of legislation but nothing will get 60 votes for cloture because there's the one sticking point most the Senator's don't want to mess with, intruding on Article 2.

This guy Specter just needs to know when to SHUT UP.

The nation WANTS the President's people to "eavesdrop" on suspected terrorists and their collaborators in the United States. And the President, since it is his Constitutional imperative, will absolutely continue to "eavesdrop" on suspected terrorists and their collaborators in the United States whether Specter and the other mice like it or not. Let them pass all the stinking laws they want.

But honestly - - doesn't this clown Specter have better things to do to keep himself out of mischief?
