It may come as a surprise to many that McDonald's, the company known worldwide for its meat burgers and milkshakes, celebrated "Meatout", an annual fair organised by advocates of vegetarianism. The fair was held at select outlets here and Thane by offering a "Vegan Meal" for two days this week.
"Vegan" advocates from Bangalore-based activist group DIYA (Do It Yourself Activists) took the initiative to organise the fair.
"Vegan" is a lifestyle choice in which no animal products are consumed and no animals are harmed.
Mcdonald's Vegan Meal promotion in the country consisted of a regular iced tea and medium fries which could be used to complete a meal of one of the many McDonald's India vegan dishes including "McVeggie McAloo Tikki" and "Crispy Chinese", which comes on a bun and are also egg and milk tree, a People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) release said.
PETA points out that chicken and fish "suffer incredibly" in meat production.
"Health experts agree that going vegetarian is the single best thing we can do for ourselves and our families. The consumption of meat and diary products has been conclusively linked with heart disease, obesity, arthritis, osteoporosis, Alzheimer's, asthma and impotence," the release said.
On average, vegetarians and vegans live six to 10 years longer than meat-eaters, the statement claimed.
McDonald's India is not the only company to offer products labelled as "vegan" in India. Popular chain Cafe Coffee Day offers a "vegan shake" sans milk or other animal products. Lush India marks many of its soaps with a green "V" indicating they contain no animal-derived ingredients.
I figure if you don't want any meat, you're pretty safe just ordering a regular hamburger.
Racoons are meat.
PETA people taste just like malnourished chicken, but stringier.
"Vegan" is a neurosis.
That one cow that McDonalds planned to serve "billions and billions" with in India turned out to be someone's uncle.
I've actually gone on a semi-veggie diet for the last month...
I still eat meat, but only about twice a week, usually fish now. The doctor said my stomach pains were due to a near complete lack of fiber in my diet...hehe.
It's not bad really. besides my cutting way down on meat I've also improved the quality of the meat that I do eat. My diverticulitis is not acting up, and I've lost about ten pounds.
A diet without any meat seems unhealthy to me, but so does my previous diet of constant meat (usually beef) at each and every meal.
No animals were harmed in this thread.
Hinduism promoted by being repackaged for American tastes as "Vegan" and "Yoga" and "Meditation: and - -
Perhaps they should concentrate on getting the orders CORRECT and HAIR FREE before trying to confuse the minimum wagers more.
The other day I ordered two happy meals for my Sons and the bum put them both in the same box!!
YAAAARRRGGGHHH!!! I MUST get my family off of fast food!
