SpongeBob Odom, the defacto head of the Louisiana Democrat Party, caused a stir last month when he pronounced an end to the Blanco for re-election efforts in favor of his candidate, former U. S. Senator John Breaux (D - D.C.).
Odom said Ms. Blanco was alright, but that we needed new leadership. He said he was conducting a poll to present to Breaux in hopes of coaxing the Edwin Edwards protégé to abandon easy street in Washington, D.C. to save Louisiana from the Republicans.
A source close to Odom has leaked the results of the Democrat poll. It ain’t looking so good for Pretty Boy Breaux or for that matter, SpongeBob. Jindal: 48%; Breaux 42%; undecided 10%.
You haven’t heard a peep out of Odom or Breaux since the poll.
But you have heard the following:
1. Blanco is looking forward to her re-election campaign.
2. The Louisiana Democrat Party is united squarely behind Blanco.
3. Odom couldn’t get the Blanco votes on the Bond Commission to refinance his syrup mill in Laccasine.
4. Hunt Downer (R-Houma) has been named Blanco’s Legislative Liaison.
It’s no coincidence that all these things occurred since Odom’s unreleased poll results. The Breaux “myth” has been debunked. Mr. Democrat is no match for Bobby Jindal. It’s the old guard about to be put out to pasture by a new generation of principled, dynamic Republicans – Vitter, Jindal, Boustany, Scalise, Beard, Tucker, Lentini, Malone, Michot, Quinn, Geymann, Kleckley, Alexander, Lambert, Greene, Crowe, LaBruzzo, Smiley, Burns, Schneider, and Mike Powell.
I predict that Republicans will take the two special elections this fall – Secretary of State and Commissioner of Insurance – and be in a position to win all of the other statewide executive branch positions – Governor, Lt. Gov., Treasurer, Attorney General and Commissioner of Agriculture.
With Jindal at the top of a Republican “ticket,” there could easily be a clean sweep in 2007. And with term limits putting half of the House of Representatives out of office, (woo hoo!) Republicans should gain control of the lower chamber.
The Senate is a different matter, because so many term-limited Democrats in the House will run for the open seats of term-limited Senators. Huge infusions of campaign dollars from unions and casinos will give these career Democrat politicians a major advantage over Republicans. It’s too bad our term-limit statute allows for cross-over campaigns.
Still, I believe that a new day is near. If we can just hold out until next year’s elections without losing hope in the system. One thing is certain – Democrats are beginning to feel the heat.
It took a Democrat poll for SpongeBob and Breaux to get the message. I wonder what it will take for Ms. Blanco

This is a reverse look through the mirror of "Main Stream Media" bias. To cast a person such as John Breaux, who has had a brilliant career as both a congressman and senator simply as a Edwards protege is outrageous. Sure, Breaux was Edwards' administrative assistant when Edwards served briefly as a US congressman more than thirty years ago.

Wow...Jindal beats Breaux? I would have thought that to be a longshot.
Then again, Breaux hasn't been on a ballot since 1998. Perhaps Jindal has cemented a large suburban/urban vote and has peeled off some rural areas as well.
I don't want Jindal in a race with Breaux. I want Jindal to stay in the US House of Rep.
Maybe the Dems want him out to try for LA Gov but he's already done that!
He's too important to be the La Govnr.

Two things notable about this poll.
(1)Dems ran a poll without BLANK-O in it. They know she's toast and are running away from her like scalded dogs.
(2)While some may be encouraged by this, 48% is exactly what Jindal got in the 2003 race. Vern Kennnedy, the respected granddaddy of Louisiana political analysts showed in his post election piece that it was the rural white(cracker) vote in central and north Louisiana that reliably goes to the more conservative candidate abandoning the (darker skinned) Jindal for BLANK-O and providing her with the winning margin.
I won't feel comforable about Jindal's prospects until he's polling well over 50%.
Is this the guy Blanco was trying to get in touch with after hurricane Katrina to find out what to do? Remember, there was a dead time right after the hurricane came ashore before she did anything. I suspect, as a good comrade, she was awaiting her marching orders from the DNC in order to maximize the political effect.
