St. Paul, Minn. Martin Sabo has scheduled a press conference Saturday to announce he's not seeking re-election. The 5th District Democrat has been a member of Congress representing Minneapolis for 28 years. Staff in his Washington, D.C. Office confirm he's making the announcement. Sabo, 68, is second in seniority to only fellow Democrat Jim Oberstar in the Minnesota congressional delegation. Sabo is the ranking Democratic member of the powerful House Appropriations committee. State Sen. Wes Skoglund, a friend, says Sabo has played a key role in a long list of projects in and out of his district.

It`s a start
Dear God,
Let Wes Skoglund be next.
Amen.
One far-left Twin Cities Rat replaces another. Ho-hum.
Let Wes Skoglund be next
God has granted your request. Wes Skoglund is NOT running for reelection.

Great news!!
A green party member has just as much of a chance winning that seat has a Dem.
I agree. I live in the 5th District. No Republican stands a snowball's chance in hell of winning this seat.
Just about any elected official in Minneapolis will be thinking about running.
I'm thinking that Hennepin County Commissioner (and 2005 mayoral candidate) Peter McLaughlin may be interested. Scott Dibble, a very liberal and ambitious gay state senator, might want to run.
Those are the first two names that come to mind.
His daughter?
