I am pleased that my Senate colleagues approved my amendment to modernize the fencing on the Arizona border with Mexico. Built properly, fences work: The fence in the San Diego Sector has dramatically reduced illegal immigration and drug trafficking across that sector. My amendment authorizes replacement of existing “landing mat” fences with “see through fencing” and expands the strategic use of that fencing as well as vehicle barriers....

Interesting numbers. We need to build a fence or employ tens of tousands on the border. Much cheaper to build a fence.

(A) The proposed border fence is not your typical backyard home fence that you chat with the neighbors over; it is made out of thin but durable wrought iron, which is criss-crossed to prevent climbing over and will be electrified

(B) Border patrol units would patrol on the other side 24/7

(C) There's no need to build a huge, Great-Wall-of-China like wall when a fence can do the same job at more than two-thirds off the cost
