An FBI informant testified Monday in Sacramento federal court that al-Qaidas second-in-command, Ayman al-Zawahri, lived in Lodi during parts of 1998 and 1999. Naseem Khan, who is a critical prosecution witness in the trials of two Lodi men charged with having terrorist ties, testified he was living in Lodi in 1998 and 1999 and "every time I would go to the mosque (al-Zawahri) would be coming or going" from the mosque.
Khan said al-Zawahri, known to the FBI as Osama bin Ladens personal physician and top adviser, "disappeared" sometime in 1999.

Let's see now - 98, 99. Clinton, Albright, Reno's watch.
Must be Bush's Fault.
Wonder if Able Danger had this data?!?

This is so bizarre. Lodi is one of the calmest places on earth. Grape Festival. Nice lawns. Slow going. And weren't these guys ice cream vendors or something? I could see Sacramento or Stockton, but not Lodi.

Apparently he wasn't "Stuck In Lodi Again" I always thought that Lodi in the song refered to Lodi NJ ... where I took my driving test. :o)

For trivia buffs: both towns were named after Lodi, Italy, a town near Milan.

Lodi is just up the road from us here in Contra Costa and I remember seeing Zawahri and Elvis at the movies. Together. They were holding hands I think but it was dark.

Lodi was also the scene of one of Napoleon's battles, the one that convinced him he was destined for historical greatness.

"In February 1998 bin Laden and several leading Muslim militants declared the formation of a coalition called the International Islamic Front for Jihad Against the Jews and Crusaders to fight the U.S. Member organizations included Al Qaeda, the Egyptian Islamic Jihad led by Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri, the Egyptian Islamic Group, and organizations engaged in Kashmir and Bangladesh. Bin Laden was appointed to head the Fronts council (shura). The militants signed a fatwa (religious opinion) outlining the Fronts ideology and goals. The fatwa was published in a London-based Arabic paper, Al Quds Al Arabi; it called on all Muslims to kill the Americans and their allies - civilians and military, wherever they may be. "

But I guess this still wasn't important enough to pay real attention to them.

Fogerty went on record in Rolling Stone magazine saying it was Lodi, CA. A town those Bay Area boys knew well.

Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if Al-Zawahiri is in Lodi right NOW.
I think someone from the FBI oughtta go check. Someone *competent*, that is.
