Media shockingly ignorant of Muslims among us (Steyn)
Chicago Sun Times ^ | 03/12/06 | Mark Steyn

Posted on 03/12/2006 5:57:00 AM PST by aynrandfreak

This week's Voldemort Award goes to the New York Times for their account of a curious case of road rage in North Carolina:

"The man charged with nine counts of attempted murder for driving a Jeep through a crowd at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill last Friday told the police that he deliberately rented a four-wheel-drive vehicle so he could 'run over things and keep going.' "

The driver in question was Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar.

Whoa, don't jump to conclusions. The Times certainly didn't. As the report continued:

"According to statements taken by the police, Mr. Taheri-azar, 22, an Iranian-born graduate of the university, felt that the United States government had been 'killing his people across the sea' and that his actions reflected 'an eye for an eye.'"

"His people"? And who exactly would that be? Taheri-azar is admirably upfront about his actions. As he told police, he wanted to "avenge the deaths or murders of Muslims around the world."

And yet the M-word appears nowhere in the Times report. Whether intentionally or not, they seem to be channeling the great Sufi theologian and jurist al-Ghazali, who died a millennium ago but whose first rule on the conduct of dhimmis -- non-Muslims in Muslim society -- seem to have been taken on board by the Western media:

The dhimmi is obliged not to mention Allah or His Apostle. . . .

The Dhimmi issue must be raised over and over until people understand the concept.

We must remain ignorant. After all they're the Religion Of Peace TM and we're the barbarian infidels. With the MSM remaining mum on the "M" word, its little wonder we still don't know what the Muslims among us are thinking any better than we did on the morning of September 11, 2001. Its a form of cultural suicide as in: "Thou Shalt Not Know Thy Enemy."

33% of Americans think Mohammedanism is a violence-prone religion, which means that 67% of Americans do not. I can't blame this entirely on the media, although they take the greater part of the blame.

"nearly half of Americans -- 46 percent -- have a negative view of Islam, seven percentage points higher than in the tense months after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks..."

46% is too low. We need to spread the word.

Also...this story faded into forgotten rather quickly. Steyn asks, "If Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar is not a free-lance terrorist, then what is he? Who is he? What's he thinking?" More to the point, Who is this guy's imam? and does this imam go around inciting terrorist acts?

Islam was spread through violence and it continues to spread through violence. Look at their conversion rate among the prison population(a somewhat violent crowd)and certain gangs here in the U.S.-Nation of Islam(yes, I consider it a well organized gang) and Al Rukin gang in Chicago among others.

It's important to differentiate ignorance, denial, and intentional distortion. As for the New York Times, consider the source (and ignore it).

I'd like to. Can you give a source or a link?

"33% of Americans think Mohammedanism is a violence-prone religion, which means that 67% of Americans do not."

That's because, still, the average American is a good person, prone to giving bad people the benefit of the doubt. The average American, still, is a pacifist. Many are true pacifists, hateful of any need to resort to violence, and this explains our great number of free criminals. The bulk of them, however, are simply preoccupied with their own selves, their own lives, and are unwilling to do anything that smacks of interfering with what they've come to know as the norm. Voting is too much hassle. Give em an Ipod and a nice car and who cares about the rest of the world. No sacrifice here, please, even to save the nation that allows them so much apathy. The recent news that 46 percent of them actually, finally, have a negative impression of Muslims is good news. A few more percentage points and maybe the government will begin doing something about our muslim population.....as in proactive containment.

Take a look at the map.  And this map is outdated.  More Mosque's have moved in across the United States since this map was published.

If a few from each Mosque took it upon themselves to 'avenge', there would be  a lot of pain.

Another 30% are too gutless to admit it.

" Dhimmies for dummies?? I'm so confused. Any muzzys out there help out with this??"

- I'm assuming your question is a serious one and it my belief that the term "dhimmitude" refers to an official Muslim practice which applies to infidels who reside amongst them in Islamic countries. I'm not certain of this, but I think the term loosely translated means, "submission".
In reality, it means that non believers are tolerated and left alone as long as they pay a special tax levy, do not carry bibles in public, do not mention their religion to Muslims (this is considered preaching), do not build churches where they can gather to worship and confine their religious services to their private homes.
Violations of any of these rules meet with varying degrees of penalty, from imprisonment to death.
Of course, there is always the added threat of random riots and murders when they can be punished if, for example, someone in Denmark publishes cartoons.
