No warning. Just resigned. No further details.
she is "protesting opening western land for oil drilling..."
If this is true then let her hit the road and draw unemployment.
You are one of my favorite Freepers. I just love the things you come out with. :-)
I know she did a lot of improving in Yellowstone, never enough to suit the enviros though. She was under constant attack by them for just about anything and everything. I feel kind of sorry for her, I dons't think I could deal with that constatant barrage of hate all of the time.
The Indian casino thing is a real problem. Remember Bruce Babbitt got caught up in that too. Supposedly they are allowed to have casinos on their reservations if they want. The problem is some of them want to prevent other tribes from getting casinos too.
Thanks for the ping Tonkin. If it's Indian related I wonder about the 'big wigs' down in Louisiana where the Coushatta Indians have large casinos.
Gale Norton is an abortion-luvin' RINO who's only "one of ours" because she couldn't find a way to get elected in Colorado without an "R" next to her name. Norton is the darling of Emily's List and campaigned hard AGAINST two of the best western conservatives in the last 20 years: Ronald Reagan and Wayne Allard.

Gale Norton to quit as Interior Secretary
BOISE -- With Interior Secretary Gale Norton resigning, some groups in Washington, D-C say an informal list of possible replacements has already emerged, including Governor Dirk Kempthorne.
Norton quit Friday after five years as head of the agency overseeing the federal Endangered Species Act.
In addition to Kempthorne, others mentioned by lobbyists as possible replacements include former Montana Governor Marc Racicot and current Colorado Governor Bill Owens.
Former U-S Representatives Scott McGinnis of Colorado and Jim Hansen of Utah, as well as Norton's Number Two aide, Lynn Scarlett, also are being talked about.
David Alberswerth of The Wilderness Society says everyone immediately started speculating on who the next secretary might be -- and Governor Kempthorne's name immediately comes up.

Five years is a LONG time for a cabinet secretary to serve - I suspect she got burned out. Nothing more.
Gail Norton resigns.

Who cares? Another whiner like Sandy day Oconnor. And don't slam the door on your way out gail. Let's get a real conservative in Interior and open up ANWR!
Would've been nice for Mineta to be shown the door but I suspect he'll be around to the end.
BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
Hmmm...a calm, still voice among the Chicken Littles?
"Who cares? Another whiner like Sandy day Oconnor. And don't slam the door on your way out gail. Let's get a real conservative in Interior and open up ANWR!"
You don't have a clue as to what you are talking about. Read up on Norton before you open your big mouth in ignorance. Geez.
"I suspect she got burned out. Nothing more."
Bingo. You nailed it.
From the latest NSA tapes:
Maid: Hillary is on the phone
Bill: Are you calling about the ports?
Hillary: Your fees from Dubai are in the Congressional record and I'm telling the world that foreigners will be a security risk. Now what?
Bill: Deny, deny, deny, and blame it on the Republicans
Hillary: How can we blame Bush?
Biil: I'll tell the Saudis to pull out of the deal. Everyone will think Bush did it, and the whole issue will die down.
I remember you voicing this question. As usual all answers come in their own good time don't they? ;-)
Norton is pro abortion and she was got a stamp of approval from Repulicans for "Choice" and emily's list.
You are the one who needs some enlightening. Wise up.
In retrospect, it's surprising that Mineta is still in the cabinet.
Norton is pro abortion and she was got a stamp of approval from Repulicans for "Choice" and emily's list.
So much for the "big tent" theory of the Republican Party. No room in it for anyone other than those that think like you. And I'm sure Norton's stance on abortion was real important to the job she did as Secretary of the Interior, don't you think? I'm sure you know that Laura Bush in the past said she was pro-choice. So is Condoleeza Rice. Gee, watcha gonna do? Must put you on the horns of a gigantic dilemma.
