THAT is what is so upsetting about this move. If Bush vetoes it, I think, he vetoes military spending for our troops in Iraq. I hope I am wrong. I just cannot believe Republicans put Bush in that position. They should have let the review go on.

At this point, I hope the UAE tells us to get the hell out.

I hope it happens and I can't wait to hear the crying about it.

Dubai is still a great place to take some time off.

"If Bush vetoes it, I think, he vetoes military spending for our troops in Iraq"

Right, and everyone knows that Bush won't veto a spending bill. ;)

"I just cannot believe Republicans put Bush in that position."

Why?

Read this if you haven't already. Tell Schumer, Clinton and Menedez to get back to me about Dubai.

Stick a fork in it, it's finished.

If Pres. Bush and his advisors don't wise up soon, there will be a fork in much more.

No one said he was perfect, i know the budget is a disaster in addition. I think not standing behind an ally in the WOT is not in the best interest of the country. I don't get any specific reason not to give the leases to them, anyone have anything specific at all?

What goose and what golden eggs man! Have you been in Dubai. I have been there three times and trust me they do not depend on us a lot. There economy is mostly based on oil/gas and tourism. Most of their oil/gas go to Europe and Japan, and the vast majority of their tourists are Arabs from other Gulf nations as well as British and Australians.

Look at the bill it was attached -- The legislation, which could be voted on by the full House next week, was attached to an emergency spending bill providing more funds for the war in Iraq and rebuilding southern states hit last year by hurricanes.

That's why it was such a large margin.

I agree that the deal is dead but on the other hand the reaction from UAE is still to come, and it will not be pleasant.

America hasn't seen such an ugly spasm of xenophobia since the Neutrality Act. Pull your knife out of the President's back, Mr. Boehner.

I was against this deal before I learned the facts--and considered the ramifications on foreign policy if it is blocked. Perhaps I still don't understand everything there is about this deal, but right now, I think this bill is a grave, terrible error, and from where I sit, it appears these legislators did this primarily to "get Bush" (on the 'Rat side) and to grandstand for the next election (on the Republican side).

"...all you guys can worry about is who is right or wrong about the dubai deal."

Nope. Why do we want to *deliberately* alienate an ally in the Middle East? It has less to do with which side is "right", and more to how do we achieve our aims in foreign policy.

It is always better to have one's enemies see things your way without beating the dogsh*t out of them. The UAE seems to respond to the benefits of civilized trade and cooperation. Then again, numb nuts like the Iranian leadership and the Taliban pretty much deserve getting beat like a rug.

There are actually multiple ways to get the job done, but so many just want to apply the sledgehammer to the UAE, regardless of any success other methods may be having.

They are buying a British company that runs terminals in our ports, and we are not consenting to the assignment of those contracts, for reasons of perceived security.

Throwing us out of the UAE won't make the Emirs any safer. I'm confident we'll be staying.

Let the record show that the 'Bots are now openly wishing harm upon the war effort if they don't get what they want. Their transformation into Honorary DUmmies continues.

Go Congress Go! :)

The Bash Bush freepers think that UAE will not dare to do anything if we stop the deal and I think it is already dead unfortunately. They are coming for a very bad surprise.

I agree. This is, in my opinion, a short-sighted and kneejerk mistake.
