RENO, Nev. (AP) - Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid said Friday that if midterm elections were held today Democrats would win the five seats they need to draw even in the Senate, due largely to the Bush administration's "general incompetence" at home and abroad.
"This is an administration that is going to be noted for its incompetence not its accomplishments," Reid, D-Nev., said after a forum on Medicare reforms at the University of Nevada's School of Medicine.
Reid said polls show Democrats winning Republican-held seats in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Montana, Missouri and Rhode Island.
"And we have good shots in Arizona and Tennessee," he said. "If elections were held today, we'd pick up five seats. The Senate would be 50-50. "

Thank God that the election is lightyears away politically. I have no doubt if it was held today the Dems would sweep.

Nope. Polls show no such "sweep". Republicans got to quit believing Democrat Press releases. Look at the state by state rankings. Going to be a really good year from incumbents. Everyone hates the Govt except for THEIR guy. Bad news for those of us hoping for some significant change.

Polls are showing that the Dems are seen as better on national security than Reps now, over this port crap and immigration.
I wish the polls were kidding. I don't think they'll stand up, but for right now the Reps are in bad shape.

How can someone who represents Vegas be so consistent about overplaying his hand?
Reid's a fool.

Polls are showing that the Dems are seen as better on national security than Reps now, over this port crap and immigration. I saw those polls; they're crap; maybe when you've been here a little longer you'll understand how they work.
And although I know some of you have a compulsion to include it in ANY and ALL discussions, they didn't say anything about IMMIGRATION,

One poll does not make an election. If you believe polls, then John Kerry is President today.
The same idiots who think Democrats will do better on security are too stupid to even know that the ports aren't being "sold" and that they're already operated by a foreign company. By November, this story will be long forgotten and the Democrats will have moved onto something else.

I don't think I'll learn anything more about polls from watching chatters on a web forum. But thanks for the encouragement.
I do think they show a lot of strain and problems, both of perception and reality of what the Republicans are failing to do on key issues.
To: balch3
You are going to be wiping your own "Technicolor Barf" from your sleave after this election...
Republicans like Rush and Hannity will be slitting their wrists come November...conservatives like me will be tossing back a double scotch to numb the pain...
You had better prepare yourself for the inevitable shift in 'tide'...
