An organization trying to stop illegal immigration started work in the downcounty last week, photographing contractors who pick up day laborers in Wheaton and making plans to expand to Silver Spring and Takoma Park.
And while Stephen Schreiman, president of the Maryland chapter of the Minutemen Civil Defense Corps, said his group would work covertly for the time being, Casa of Maryland, a workers rights group that runs day laborer centers in Silver Spring, Wheaton and Takoma Park, said it would take the opposite approach...
...
We are going to target them in a specific way, said Executive Director Gustavo Torres. Casa representatives will go out with cameras and video cameras to record the Minutemen, but that will only be the first step, he said.
Then we are going to picket their houses, and the schools of their kids, and go to their work, Torres said.
....
In this area, the commercial sector hasnt been harmed in the sense of people being deprived from work because of the day laborers being here, he (Erwin Mack, Takoma-Langley Crossroads Development Authority) said. Consequently, while there are issues with their right to be in the United States, thats not what were concerned about. Were concerned that they wait in an area that doesnt hurt our commercial properties.
....
Schreiman said his group plans to turn its findings over to local and state law enforcement, though he said he was not aware of Takoma Parks status as a Sanctuary City. Takoma Park law prohibits any employee, including its police officers, from assisting or cooperating with federal investigations or arrests related to immigration issues.
Thats blatantly a criminal act as far as Im concerned, Schreiman said. That means theyre aiding and abetting the transport and hiring of illegals, if they refuse to cooperate.

Exactly. South of the border, kidnapping children on the way home from school is routine, for example.
He's upset enough about it that he has made it easy for his listeners to contact the Montgomery County Council.
Have at it, folks!
Here's what you need to know, from WMAL AM630's website:
Speak Out!!!!
Tired of Montgomery County funding Casa de Maryland, as Chris discussed Friday morning? Click HERE to contact the Montgomery County Council to let them know how you feel.
You can also listen to previous day's radio shows on-demand, by clicking on this link. They only have a one week, rolling archive, so if you want to hear today's show you'll need to do it before next Friday.
Thanks and a BTTT
stalking children or threatening to is evil.
remember in the 80's when Takoma Park became a "nuclear free zone????" they're nuts over there!
The things we allow in the defense of "rights" is way out of hand!
bttt
Although most identify with the libs because their pay check comes from the Feds or because they are Jews who feel its their duty to vote liberal, they have a weird conservative bent. ( I suspect living with a sniper helped.)
I think they won't tolerate this too long. They are a population that, if push comes to shove, they will react, especially if Casa starts terrorizing children. Not Acceptable.
Just wish more of them would wake up post 9-11 and realize it's to time to push like the dickens.
Well, I'm sure they can ticket you for not wearing a seatbelt and make sure you don't smoke anywhere.
Grew up there in the 70's and 80's, moved west in 1992. It just seems to have gone mad since. Plus from a distance, you realize how strange multi-generational government employee families are.
bump.
Then we are going to picket their houses, and the schools of their kids, and go to their work, Torres said.
Goons declare war on Minutemen and their families.
Takoma Park is a brain free zone.
The only way I can figure is that Casa will have people following the children as they walk to school
I ask you...what would do immediately...if you saw someone taking pictures and following YOUR CHILDREN to school??
Let's hear it.
Shouldn't that be, Gustavo Torres, Executive Director ataúd of Maryland, Inc?
That's a little Spanglish pun there, folks....
I doubt it. They're just doing the stalking and privacy invasion that Americans won't do.
This is Takoma Park. All you'd probably get are old farts in ponytails going "Peace, man, can you dig it?"
Do I understand correctly that the old farts in ponytails are restricted mainly to Austin down there?
I'm sure that Tamar Jacoby and the Wall Street Journal Editorial Page will call it justifiable self-defense.
It's amazing to me that no one seems to have a problem with tax dollars and illegal immigrant being used in the same sentence let alone for one to help the other!
Thanks for the ping.
