ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A gunman at Roseburg High School wounded one person early Thursday, sending the campus into a lockdown, Roseburg Police and school administrators said.

The victim, described only as a male student, was being treated at a local hospital, according to Sgt. Aaron Dunbar with the Roseburn Police Department. The extent of his injuries was not immediately known.

The shooting happened just before 8 a.m., near the courtyard on the south side of the school, Dunbar said. A short time later, police tracked down and cornered the gunman, who police believe was also a male student.

"There was a brief standoff, with the suspect holding a gun to his head and threatening suicide. The standoff lasted three to five minutes and then the suspect surrendered to police," Dunbar said.

No names have been released and no motive for the shooting was disclosed.

"For the time being, the school is in lockdown. No students are being allowed out, and no parents are being allowed in. Parents of students are asked not to go to the high school," Dunbar said, just before 9 a.m.

A nearby elementary school also was locked down as a precaution.

Put the shooter in jail for a long, long time. Like until he's 70. And publicize it a lot, so it might serve as a deterrent to other would-be-killers.

I'm so glad he didn't manage to kill anyone.

Oregon police: student critically wounded in school shooting

ROSEBURG, ORE. -- A hospital official says the victim in a school shooting in southwest Oregon is "doing very well" for someone who was shot four times.

The head of Roseburg's Mercy Hospital says the victim is only 16 and can "tolerate this better than the rest of us." He was hit three times in the torso and once in the elbow in the shooting at Roseburg High School.

Police are holding a suspect. Local TV reports police describe the shooter as a 16-year-old.

Police say when they cornered the suspect, he put the gun to his own head.

A witness to the capture says the gunman had a long-barreled revolver.

But but but, that can't happen. After all, aren't schools "Gun Free Zones"?! You mean someone who wants to kill someone else is willing to break a gun control law? I'm shocked, just shocked I tell you! /pointing out the stupidity of gun control and so-called gun free zones

So you are against kids attacking their abusers. Jail time for a few year perhaps, but you want triple the amount of time in jail that rapist murderers get.
