A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Hi Finest Friends... JohnHuang2 needed one more week off to recoop from the ravages of Wilma. And can you believe FredtheCat got off of her perch and offered some cat logic. (She complained that we are spending too much time on us...the doggie varities So here you go! Love - Giz & Rusty

P.S. As always,feel free to show your canine and feline friends (OR jokes and stories!!!)

Things You Can Learn From Your Cat

Make the world your playground

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you can't get your way, lay across the keyboard until you do.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

When you are hungry,meow loudly so they feed you just to shut you up.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Always find a good patch of sun to nap in.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

When in trouble, just purr and look cute.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Curiousity never killed anything except maybe a few hours.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

When in doubt, cop an attitude.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Climb your way to the top, that's why the curtains are there.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Always give generously; a bird or rodent left on the bed tells them, "I care."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When you have something important to say, try to say it in the dead of night when you're SURE everyone's sleeping. There's no better way to get the attention you deserve.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!!! - Love - Giz and Friends

This thread's reminding me I need to get a dog. It's been five years since mine died and I'm finally starting to think I can get another.

Actually, we FOUND rusty below on FR...A freeper put out an appeal as the neighbor/owner had taken him to a shelter in LA and he was about to be put down. The appeal was to California freepers. Sigh....we live in Ohio BUT here he still is (the most expensive pound puppy mutt we've ever had but worth every penny!!!!! Hope you consider another critter. Great on the blood pressure :o)

Chasing the Dark

My dog goes out into the night, at the end of every day,
Where the first thing that she does is bark, to chase the dark away.
Of course, she’s not afraid of it, just wants to give the warning,
That it had better pack its stuff, and clear out by the morning.

So then she goes to restful sleep, content that all is right,
And when she checks on things again, there’s nothing left of night!
She seems to be more happy then, it seems to thrill her heart,
To know that darkness ran away, and she has done her part!

I haven’t tried explaining, the way things really are,
Besides, I like the cheerfulness, of my bright morning star!
She is a useful watchdog, she watches Day and Night.
And anything she doesn’t like, just barks it out of sight.

Good Morning Dutchess!
Great Thread. I love your pet threads. :) We lived on a big property and house growing up. Big family. :) We had 13+ cats at one time. My mother let us take in the strays and take care of them. It's such a wonderful memory. My sister and I loved them so and we were with them all the time.

I wish I could have a cat now. I grew up and now I'm so allergic. Thanks for your thread. :)

Built To Last

Read:
Ephesians 4:7-16

You also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit. —Ephesians 2:22

Bible In One Year: Numbers 7-8; Mark 4:21-41

cover When explorers entered Peru, they found huge, impressive buildings that may have been standing for 2,000 years. These ancient Inca structures were built of hand-hewn rocks of different sizes and shapes. Some were 3-sided, some 4-sided, and some 7-sided. Without the use of mortar, they were fitted together so perfectly that they stood for many centuries, even through earthquakes.

God builds His church in much the same way. The Bible pictures the church of Jesus Christ as a building, and each believer is a block in that building. Peter said that we, "as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house" (1 Peter 2:5). And Paul said that we are "being joined together" (Ephesians 2:21) and "are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit" (v.22).

People with a variety of backgrounds, abilities, interests, and needs make up Christ's church, so uniting in a common purpose is not an easy process. Yet when we let the Lord do His work among us, shaping us and assigning our place in the structure, we become part of a strong, solid edifice.

Yes, we are all different. But God is building an enduring church. The magnificent Inca buildings will eventually crumble, but the church is built to last. —Dave Egner

Christ builds His church with different stones
And makes each one secure;
All shapes and sizes fit in place
To make His church endure. —Anon.

The permanence of the church is based on the character of the Builder.

Hi. This is K.E.T. from Nan's house saying, "I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE FOR HELPING ME TO KEEP MY SANITY, AND FOR BEING SO SUPPORTIVE DURING BRIAN'S YEAR IN IRAQ. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR PRAYERS. HE IS BACK AT FT. CARSON IN CO. NOW WITH HIS WIFE, AND WILL BE COMING TO WV FOR A VISIT IN LATE MARCH. WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO HAVING A BIG PARTY WHEN HE COMES HOME."

Brian is with the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment and was stationed in Tal Afar. In case anyone hasn't seen it here is a letter from the Mayor of Tal Afar to the 3rd ACR and their families. We are all very proud of Brian and his "Band of Brothers". We need to continue to keep all the troops in Iraq in our prayers.

In the Name of God the Compassionate and Merciful

To the Courageous Men and Women of the 3d Armored Cavalry Regiment, who have changed the city of Tall’ Afar from a ghost town, in which terrorists spread death and destruction, to a secure city flourishing with life.

To the lion-hearts who liberated our city from the grasp of terrorists who were beheading men, women and children in the streets for many months.

To those who spread smiles on the faces of our children, and gave us restored hope, through their personal sacrifice and brave fighting, and gave new life to the city after hopelessness darkened our days, and stole our confidence in our ability to reestablish our city.

Our city was the main base of operations for Abu Mousab Al Zarqawi. The city was completely held hostage in the hands of his henchmen. Our schools, governmental services, businesses and offices were closed. Our streets were silent, and no one dared to walk them. Our people were barricaded in their homes out of fear; death awaited them around every corner. Terrorists occupied and controlled the only hospital in the city. Their savagery reached such a level that they stuffed the corpses of children with explosives and tossed them into the streets in order to kill grieving parents attempting to retrieve the bodies of their young.

This was the situation of our city until God prepared and delivered unto them the courageous soldiers of the 3d Armored Cavalry Regiment, who liberated this city, ridding it of Zarqawi’s followers after harsh fighting, killing many terrorists, and forcing the remaining butchers to flee the city like rats to the surrounding areas, where the bravery of other 3d ACR soldiers in Sinjar, Rabiah, Zumar and Avgani finally destroyed them.

I have met many soldiers of the 3d Armored Cavalry Regiment; they are not only courageous men and women, but avenging angels sent by The God Himself to fight the evil of terrorism.

The leaders of this Regiment; COL McMaster, COL Armstrong, LTC Hickey, LTC Gibson, and LTC Reilly embody courage, strength, vision and wisdom. Officers and soldiers alike bristle with the confidence and character of knights in a bygone era. The mission they have accomplished, by means of a unique military operation, stands among the finest military feats to date in Operation Iraqi Freedom, and truly deserves to be studied in military science. This military operation was clean, with little collateral damage, despite the ferocity of the enemy. With the skill and precision of surgeons they dealt with the terrorist cancers in the city without causing unnecessary damage.

God bless this brave Regiment; God bless the families who dedicated these brave men and women. From the bottom of our hearts we thank the families. They have given us something we will never forget. To the families of those who have given their holy blood for our land, we all bow to you in reverence and to the souls of your loved ones. Their sacrifice was not in vain. They are not dead, but alive, and their souls hovering around us every second of every minute. They will never be forgotten for giving their precious lives. They have sacrificed that which is most valuable. We see them in the smile of every child, and in every flower growing in this land. Let America, their families, and the world be proud of their sacrifice for humanity and life.

Finally, no matter how much I write or speak about this brave Regiment, I haven’t the words to describe the courage of its officers and soldiers. I pray to God to grant happiness and health to these legendary heroes and their brave families.

NAJIM ABDULLAH ABID AL-JIBOURI Mayor of Tall ‘Afar, Ninewa, Iraq
