Expensive products, poor selection. That's Radio Shack. Who wants to make a special trip to Radio Shack for a plug in or a cord.
The place has changed. They now sell only a handful of radios (most made by Tecsun in China) and tons of Dish TV, cell phone services and well, that is about it.
Maybe time and bad marketing has caught up with Radio Shack the way it did with Lafayette Radio Electronics.
"it is replacing old, slower-moving merchandise like speaker wire "
Great! They'll get rid of the only stuff that brings me into the store. I guess it's off to Best Buy from now on.
Too bad, too. They were an easy place to buy small, common electronics components. I'll miss that. I won't miss most of Radio Shack, though.
It's a shame. Truthfully, I don't shop there cause of the rigamaro you have to go through when you buy something there.
Good. I'm still angry at them for putting Lafayette Electronics out of business here. I suppose when you sell expensive junk you have few return customers.
Why is everyone in here always so happy when a business goes out of business? Radio Shack carries parts you can't get anywhere else....
On the Left Coast they have big electronics outlets like Fry's but here on the East Coast RS is about it if you need a component. Unfortunately, RS has become mostly a novelty or toy store and the people who work there are simpletons. I can understand why they are in trouble.
And they don't seem a very inviting place either. Sort of like the post office: one in every town, and job security no matter what -- at least until now.
Too bad in a way, because when I was a kid I used to LOVE going to Radio Shack. Intense competition and changing tastes have doomed the Shack, I fear. That they've managed to stay afloat this long is a miracle.
I never went to a Radio Shack where the salesperson knew anything or the item was in stock. Haven't stepped foot inside one in years.
When did the CEO admit his wrongdoing. The last story I read, he was claiming that the school had lost his records.
Yes, but will they still continue with the free battery card - or is that still even available any more?
When they essentially stopped selling (stocking) electronic components, all that was left in the stores was crap that no one wanted.
Too bad they can't replace the hired help with illegals-- (They've probably decided to do that when they reopen a few stores.) (heavy and annoyed sarcasm.)
Rat Shack is still around? I wonder if there's one in my city? I wonder if I care enough to look.
I'll tell you guys what is killed Radio Shack.
You can find just about ANYTHING for a computer at sites like:
http://www.newegg.com/
If you can't get it there, you can get it other places and any of them will probably be cheaper.
I love RS. It's great for all kinds of neat music stuff that you can't always find anywhere else--mic stands, small mixers, signal splitters, cables, etc. You MIGHT be able to find some of this stuff at Best Buy, but not always and you'll not always find someone to help you. My experience at RS is that although they may try to sell you a cell phone, they'll treat you very well even if you're just buying batteries.
I was once trying to buy a short wave radio. I bought one but wasn't quite happy. The salesman let me take home another radio--without me even paying for it--just to compare it with the one I'd already bought. He actually trusted me to come back and settle up.
Oh well...Too bad.
