It looks like both Brown and Congress want White House cover for budgetary issues pertaining to FEMA and the Katrina response.

Nice try by Brown's lawyer, but the White House is letting it all hang out, which is a good thing. Let the chips fall.

Thanks so much for posting this thread...I've been listening for 20 mins, and there seems to be a lot of blaming and NO ONE taking responsibility for anything...

Maybe the White house isn't invoking Exec Priv. because there is nothing to hide?

But More I think the White house wants to give Brown the opportunity to Flay the Gov of Louisiana and all the officials in the state that were so absolutely HORRIBLE and did such awful work for the people they were supposed to serve.

Perhaps this is the White house throwing The Gov of La, and the Mayor of N.O. to the dogs they themselves raised?

Brown just said he emailed an official that evening to tell him how bad it was. Why email? Why not a phone call immediately? CYA?

Reminiscent of the 9/11 omission commission hearings....
Just like the Loretta Scott King funeral, this is nothing but just another opportunity for the Liberals and the MSM to trash, bash, blame President Bush.

These hearings are to pacify black voters.

Either they enlarge FEMA, and make them 1st responders, or not.

Of course, that would be too mature, serious, and boring for modern day pols and their voters.

If Brown was as incompentent as the democrats say, why would they care to hear from him at all?

Sounds like Sen. Coleman is trying to use the emails as a transcript of events.

Brown contesting that Colemen is taking comments in emails out of context.

Coleman chickens out when Brown confronts him.

Coleman: "My time is up, Mr. Chairman."

One more glaring waste of time by a bunch of worthless gasbags. Don't tell me there aren't much more important issues to be hashed out than what happens when a force-5 'cane whops up against a city lying under sea level.

Not that any of these mooks have ever been capable of solving anything whatsoever, regardless of the relative importance, its just that it pisses me off that they can't do something more productive.

Here's a thought for the jerk-offs: how about adjourning for about a year and a half? We'd all enjoy the relative quiet.

Basically, this morning at 8am EST Michael Brown was a pariah and poster child for disaster with 100% of the American public.  Bashing Bush immediately gives him the support of about half of the country.  He just gained the support of 50 million voters simply by electing to bash the President.

This whole inquiry is ridiculous. You build a city below flood. Along comes a hurricane everybody knows is coming sometime. Everybody says, let's just sit it out. Then the hurricane comes. We have chaos and destruction. And people are surprised that even superman is overwhelmed. Pleeeeezzze.

The really ignorant thing is not that this happened, but that people actually want to go back there and rebuild with tax payer money. Who are they kidding?

If you want to spend you own money and take your chance fine. But no whining if people do not want to pay for it for you or if they are not sympathetic when it goes belly-up.

Political dog and pony show. When are they going to investigate the actions of the New Orleans and Louisiana governments? Probably never. Just more raw meat being thrown at the DUers.

I don't know why somebody, (Even Brown himself) won't point out that it IS CONGRESS THAT WRAPPED FEMA INTO THE DHS IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And it was Joe Lieberman that was leading the charge for the creation of the DHS.

For once I would love to see someone throw back errors and inefficiency back into the face of those that created the structure to make the mess in the first place. Just once!

Senator Pryor, D-AR.

Makes me think of Senator Blanche Lincoln, D-AR. Right after Katrina, she was on TV decrying the disaster. She went on to tell a story of a man and woman [I still crack up laughing every time I recall this story] floating down the river on an old refrigerator after Katrina. [Politicians will say anything for the camera.]

Brown was on C-SPAN giving a speech a couple of weeks ago. He is now marketing himself as a consultant on emergency preparedness. Unbelievable.
