I was disappointed (as in very upset) when he picked Harriet Miers. She never could have handled the grilling and the Democrats were salivating over ripping her to shreds. She did the right thing and I respect her for that.

I'm sure she's a fine lady. She handled her ordeal well. However, I'm glad we didn't send another "crap shoot" to the SC.

I don't know the poster's intent, but the theory by some is that Miers was deliberately picked first, knowing that her nomination would not succeed, but the fact that she is a woman would show that Bush WANTED to pick a woman, thereby taking the pressure off to pick a woman to fill O'Connor's seat, wherefore he then picked Alito who was voted in with more support than he would have gotten if picked first.
That is the theory that the poster might be using.
I don't know, but if so, your post completely omits that consideration.

You must be joking right?
She helped Bush select William Pickering, Janice Rogers Brown, William Pryor, Priscilla Owen, Miguel Estrada, John Roberts, Sam Alito, etc. If she's a closet leftist feminist, she stabbed her own in the back, over and over and over, with every nominee Bush put up there. Strange job she holds for a closet leftist feminist.
Why is she in the closet, btw?
Look what harm she has done her "closet" cause. Let's have a few more of her and we just might take our cause over the top for all time to come, eh??

You know nothing about it, so shame on you. If he did do such a thing, of course by all reason it was with the knowledge and approval of Harriet Miers. I'm not saying he did or she did. Just that quite a few seem to hold that theory.

Absolutely. It was Dubya's mistake to nominate and circle the wagons around her.
She's a great American

A heroine of another sort.
When I saw the thread title, my first thought was "Mama Alito",
and second was the judge's wife.
Guess I'm just a old-style guy...for not having Miers first come to mind!

Are you saying Bush would have cut his deal with Trent Lott two months earlier? I doubt it.

"Drenk! Fec! Arse! Girls!" Is that a Boondock Saints quote? Great movie (could also be Father whatshisname from Father Ted) The stuttering Tourette Syndrome / Alzheimer suffering barkeep in the former is a scream.
If Teddy the Bloated Toad had any class he'd "make like a tree and get the f*** out of here"!
