Rep. Bartlett Wins Support to Ban Abortion Pill

WASHINGTON — Not only is the abortion pill RU-486 killing babies, Maryland Rep. Roscoe Bartlett said Wednesday, it's now known to kill their mothers and should be banned immediately.

Bartlett held a news conference Wednesday to boost passage of his legislation, commonly known as "Holly's Law," which calls for the Food and Drug Administration's suspension of RU-486.

"I don't want it on the market," the pro-life Republican said. "We need to be responsible. We need to move on this. This is a very modest bill."

The bill has 79 other co-sponsors, including Rep. Jean Schmidt, R-Ohio.

"Too many girls have been lured into the masquerade that this is a quick-and-easy fix," she said. "Let's give it a vote."

Named after Holly Patterson, an 18-year-old California woman who died in 2003 after taking the drug, the bill is before the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. No hearings have been scheduled.

At least five women have died from taking the drug, which is used to terminate early pregnancies, since its approval in 2000, according to a New England Journal of Medicine article, although the precise number is disputed. More than 460,000 doses have been shipped from Danco Laboratories, the manufacturer of the drug, although it is not clear how many doses have actually been taken, according to the Journal.

Seems like the pro-life movement is getting some steam. This should pass the House, the Senate is where the road block is.

If a potential mother kills her baby and dies in the act is that called justice?

Yes its a bit harsh, but remember these people who may die using a pill to kill their unborn are themselves killers.

No I just placed this here as a thought, I certainly dont advocate women dying in bad abortions. However all these liberals who advocate saving mothers by making legal abortions are forgetting that either way someone dies.

Is it this thing (RU-486) or Plan-B which they mainly give to rape victims to prevent their being forced to have children for rapists?

This is such a difficult subject that it is hard to say what is "justice". Altimately, God will decide, but those of us who are on the side of life hope that abortion will end.

With so many people wanting to adopt, why would you choose to kill your baby? Whether it is a pill, or a coat hanger, you have the same result.

The left does not care if you kill your children. You just have to look at Ted Kennedy, who helped to kill Mary Jo Kopechne. This idiot should still be in jail, but he is leading the democrats. And they wonder why they keep losing.

You know, a few people get some sort of health problem from taking Vioxx, and it's yanked from the market bid time. It's only politics that got RU 486 on the market in the first place without any of the walls put up against most other drugs, and it's just politics that's keeping it on the market.

Good for Rep. Bartlett!

Good. Ban the friggin drug. If the FDA can ban Red Yeast Rice because Big Pharmacy says it works better at lowering cholesterol than their stupid chemical crap, then RU-486 should be eighty-sixed too.

Exactly. 2 people died from a promising multiple sclerosis medication, and the drug was immediately yanked. It's all political.
