VIENNA, Austria - A man plummeted 130 feet from a helicopter Monday but escaped injury because deep snow cushioned his fall.
The 42-year-old was suspended from the helicopter by a rope to make repairs when the knot came undone and he slipped free, police in the Upper Austria town of Hallstatt said in a statement.
Although a fall from that height normally would result in death or serious injury, the deep snow drifts broke the man's fall, officials said. He was taken by rescue helicopter to a nearby hospital for a medical checkup as a precaution but appeared to have no injuries, they said.

Looks like someone needs a few lessons in knot-tying.

A knot came loose? This guy has a guardian angel. He should play the lottery too.

Electrical wires. They, helocopters, also put those orange or red balls on the wires so pilots can see the wires.

Dam straight! Wonder if his life flashed before his eyes.
The only problem might be that folks like this often turn into charlatans and start predicting the future and going on talk radio...

Good morning.
I remember reading an article many years ago about a British tail gunner who jumped from a stricken Lancaster without a chute and survived.
The tail gunner didn't have room to wear a chute in his position so he had to leave it forward. A night fighter caught them and the Lancaster was set on fire. The gunner decided falling to his death was preferable to burning so he jumped at 30,000 feet.
He landed in a tree, some bushes and deep snow and survived with a wrenched knee.
When the Germans captured him they thought he was lying until they found the wreckage of the bomber with his chute in it.
I don't know if it is true or not, but it makes a great story.
