WASHINGTON, Pennsylvania - Just to make sure there's no confusion about which team they are supporting in the Super Bowl XL, the mayor and council voted unanimously to change this city's name.

Welcome to Steeler, Pennsylvania.

The name change for the city of about 15,000 people south of Pittsburgh will last through Feb. 5, the day of the football game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Seattle Seahawks in Detroit.

"I know the folks in the state of Washington are rooting for the Seahawks, so we wanted to make sure everyone knows the city of Washington is fully in support of the Steelers," Mayor Kenneth J. Westcott told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Anyone sending bills, cards or letters should continue addressing them to Washington, however, because the name change is cosmetic and not recognized by the U.S. Postal Service.

"It's just a spoof until after the Super Bowl," Westcott told the newspaper.

Fast Eddie: a box of Pittsburgh's Original Hot Dog Shop hot dogs, a case of Heinz condiments, Primante Brothers Sandwiches and Eat n' Park Gold & Black Smile cookies. (all food is donated to a Seattle homeless shelter if the Seahawks win).

Gregoire the Usurper: apples, Ivar's Clam Chowder and "Applets and Cotlets." (also will be donated to a Pittsburgh homeless shelter if the Steelers win).

Am a Patriots fan and most likely will cheer for Pitt.
(since they're AFC; also, am attending a cartoon fan
convention there in June!) though it's interesting that
Seattle finally got to a SB (and if they lose at least they
can boast of finally winning an NFC title)

The Heinz connection: when Steelers played Broncos it was at Denver but I mentioned about the Steelers' home being
Heinz Field, here on FR; and when Pitt. started building up a lead, I said: "They really have the Broncos in a pickle.
Can Denver ketchup?"

Good old Washpa. Where the local college (W&J '69) is the prime economic mover. I have some great memories of the place, although since most of the local mills have closed I don't think things are too hot.

Used to consume a lot of beer at Monaco's Tavern on the corner of Beau St. and Main St.

Used to go to out to "84" for picnics with the girls from Chatham College.

Used to go to a rib shack down in Monongahela, where the owner made his own beer.

Hope Washpa is doing well.
